Hi
I can't find the marriage of Henry Floate (b. 1803?) and Elizabeth Mills.
In theory they married in Washington, Sussex but it might be in the surrounding area.
If you have them on the 1841 census then that would be an added bonus.
Their son Henry was born in 1827 in Washington.
Cheers

Hello Downside
Couldn't get your starter, but the bonus is:
Ho107/1098/5
Folio 25 Pg.15
Henry Floate 38 Farmer
Elizabeth Floate 35
Henry Floate 13
Isaac Freeman 20 Ag Lab
Daniel Tidey 35 Ag Lab
Living in Washington, no discernable address
-
Thanks for that.
Someone on GenesReunited contacted be over Christmas to tell me that I had got it all wrong and that Henry's (junior) parents were James and Lydia.
I wonder if Henry and Elizabeth married outside the county?
Any chance of getting the 1851 cenus Where Born detail?

Hi Downside,
Here's your starter. Extra goodies as it's by licence :D From the Sussex Marriage Index.
Archdeaconry of Chichester Marriage Licence, 13 Mar 1827:
Henry FLOATE, bach Wiston
Elizabeth MILLS, sp Storrington
Storrington, West Sussex, 15 Mar 1827:
Henry FLOATE, Wiston
Elizabeth MILLS

Thanks Jane
Oh dear, Elizabeth must have been at least 2 months pregnant.
Son Henry was baptised 04 Oct 1827.

:) Whoops, although not uncommon ::)

1851 census:
Henry Floate b. 1803 Pidehaven or Pidenham ??
Elizabeth Floate b. 1807 Storrington
Henry Floate b. 1828 Washington
Living Sand Hill, Washington, Henry a farmer of 112 acres employing 4 men.
In 1861 Henry and Elizabeth are lodging in the Red Lion Inn in Washington.
Elizabeth still born Storrington, Henry now born Vidinghove (?!!)
And I did look at the image - it surely is written just like that!
My Sussex geography isn't that good - any ideas?
In 1861 Henry is "formerly a farmer"
Their son is married to Elizabeth and is a gamekeeper.

Thanks Mum44
I think it is meant to be Piddinghoe which is north of Peacehaven and Newhaven in East Sussex.
-
Piddinghoe - I think you could be right!
IGI - extracted - baptism of Henry Float (no e)
15 Dec 1802 Piddinghoe
Parents Henry Float and Hannah
That the one?
-
Hi Mum44
Yes that looks about right. I only had his birth as 1803 but no other details.
There are many variations of the spelling of Floate so that is not a problem.
I do have a note that the Hannah is Hannah Elmes but no further details.
I can prove to this person on genes that I do have the right ancestors for Henry Floate.
Thankyou for the information.

There are a number of apparent siblings - at least, a Henry Floate (with the e ) and Hannah baptised 9 children between 1801 and 1815 in Wiston (which place appears as the parish of bachelor Henry on Jane's post)
I must get a decent map! How close to Piddinghoe is Wiston?
Those baps are all extracted.
There is a submitted marriage for Henry Float and Hannah Elmes 26 May 1800, but just Sussex (beware the IGI submissions, say I !)

Beware the IGI submissions, say I ! ! !
A typical submission error - licence date instead of marrage date.
-
Thank you for the additional information (extra, extra bonus).
Wiston is not far from Washington.
Piddinghoe is a long way (by horse-drawn cart) from Wiston.
There are a number of apparent siblings - at least, a Henry Floate (with the e ) and Hannah baptised 9 children between 1801 and 1815 in Wiston
I think Sarah Floate 1820 Wiston is their final child.
Living in Washington, no discernable address
I think they lived in a place called Pigland, Washington.
