Hi yogibear,

Do you have a copy of the birth certificate, which will give you the names of his parents?  Might be easier to find him using those.

Hi yogibear,

There's a 9 year old Philip Trant on 1901 census in Brixham; could that be him?

I'd go with that too - the BMD Index is June 1891, so missed the census

The Philip Trant on the 1901 census was my great uncle. My Grandfather was William Cove Trant and another of his brothers (Alf) had a hardware/chandlery on Brixham Harbour front. I think it is now an amusement arcade!
