Title: finding dublin roots? Help please!
Post by: lindseyanne on Sunday 30 December 07 00:25 GMT (UK)
Hello Everyone :)
I hope you can help me, I'm new to this & enjoying the challenge so far!
I have discovered an Irish ancestor & would like to find out more about her origins.
Her name is Fanny Maria Wallace & her birth details are:
Birth: 10 AUG 1864 0770, Rathfarnham, Dublin, Ireland.
Her parents were William Wallace (of Crumlin?)& Fanny White.  They moved over to the UK a year after her birth  - to Chester, Cheshire in 1865/66, where William worked as a detective officer.
Fanny White appears to have had 2 children before marrying William in 1863....they bear his surname in the UK census but whether they were his remains to be seen....!
William Wallace was born in 1834/35 & died youing at 47, in 1881.
Fanny White was born in 1836-38 (sometimes spelt Fannie just to make things more complicated) Sorry I can't be more specific with the dates.
Its proving tricky for me to get any further with these 2 people.  Any pointers would be much appreciated!
Thanks
LindseyAnne :)

What religion was the family? When were the 2 older children born? Civil registration of Catholic marriages began 1864 but Protestant marriages from 1845. If there is a marriage certificate for William and Fanny it should list the names and occupations of both fathers.
Fannie can be a nickname for Frances so keep an eye out for that spelling as well.

hi

the first 2 children were
Anne E b 1861
Samuel J b 1862
(before William & Fannys marriage in 1863)

Unfortunately I don't know their religion at the moment...& thanks for the marriage certificate pointers.

Hello,
Does anyone know how I can find protestant marriage records in Ireland for 1863?
I'm guessing that the couple may have been protestant as their son Samuel lists this as his religion....
many thanks in advance  :)

non-Catholic marriages from 1845 were included in Civil Records - you can search these on the familysearch Irish Civil Index at : http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=2;t=searchable;c=1408347

Records can be ordered from the GRO - www.groireland.ie using the name, year/quarter/ registration district, volume & page number.

These people are my family also. Did you get any further tracing them in Ireland? I know this post is very old but stumbled across it so thought I’d reply on the off chance! Thomas Henry Wallace born 3rd May 1876 at 45 Gloucester Street, Chester was my Grandfather and William and Fanny Wallace’s second youngest child. I have a copy of William’s death certificate and some info about Fanny from after she moved to Liverpool with her younger children after William’s death from bronchitis in 1881.

Welcome to RootsChat, KCL65  :)

You have indeed stumbled across a very old post. The OP (lindseyanne) was last online here in August 2010, but all is not lost.

If you make at least one more post, you can use the RootsChat PM (Personal Message) system to contact lindseyanne, if he/she is still receiving e-mail notifications to reply to the thread.

The 1863 Marriage of William Wallace and Fanny White took place in Crumlin, Co Dublin, see below:-

Not mentioned yet, but in 1863-64 William Wallace was a constable in the Dublin Metropolitan Police (3rd class, D division).

See Fanny Maria's birth record in 1864-

Likely to be the civil parish of Kildrumsherdan - clerk entering it probably misheard the name when being told it.

Ahh, so you are thinking the William Walsh entry is in fact William Wallace and it is a transcription error?  Marriage certificate states his father was a farmer so him also being a farmer before joining the DMC makes sense.

I am so grateful for all this, thank you so much. I have been stuck getting back with this part of my family tree for years. The two eldest children being before his marriage to Fanny suggests they are not hers and are from his first marriage which makes sense.

He resigned earlier too, in November 1853, shortly after joining, but rejoined. The reason given for his resignation was 'to emigrate'.

Given the marriage record has his father's name as Samuel, he is probably William Wallace baptised 21 April 1833. Address given as Carrigacrew in the Church of Ireland parish of Kildrumferton in Co. Cavan. Father Samuel Wallace (labourer), mother Ann Wallace. There appear to be siblings Jane, Ellen, Sarah and Samuel.

Thanks for this. Is there a link to this information?
