Title: COMPLETED Hannah CARDEN
Post by: MarcusStone on Thursday 27 December 07 08:14 GMT (UK)
Hi

I need some help finding the birth record of one of my ancestors Hannah CARDEN.  The information I have is as follows

The 1841 census has Hannah living with her mother Mary at New Buildings, Bristol.  Her dad is absent.  Hannah’s age is recorded as 9 and Mary’s as 50.  The other members of the family, her brothers and sisiters, are Elizabeth 20, Catherine 16, Ellen 14, George 13, Adelaide 7, Sarah 2

I would like to find the parish record for the birth of Hannah, presumably in 1831/32 and also any details on her parents.

Many thanks in advance

There are many parishes in Bristol, any idea which one they were in?

They were in one of two.  Either St. James, or St. Philip and St. Jacob.

If you check the LDS Library catalogue for Bristol church records indexes (mark "indexes") you will find that several of the LDS films available give their source as the Bristol and Avon FHS so perhaps you should contact them.

If you search the indexes using Windows "Find . ." under Tools, you will not find Jacob, James or Philip which means the data from the LDS films of those churches' records (q.v.) have not been extracted and placed in the IGI.

Hi

Thanks for the input.  Just before Christmas I actually applied to become a member of the Bristol and Avon FHS and so I will hopefully be able to find the information I require through them in due course.

Hi, If Hannah Carden was related to you then so  am I! Hannah was the sister of Adelaide. Father John Carden, mother Mary. Its been a while since I looked at this family but Adelaide married William Moses Rennolds and its his daughter rebecca that I am related to.

As far as I can work out John Carden died before 1841 and Mary before 1851. I am waiting on a marriage certificate to confirm some details. I haven't been able to chase the Carden side very far any info or guidance you can give would be much appreciated, as I'm trying to put the pieces together for my mother.

look forward to hearing from you.

Hi just to let you know if you don't already have the information but I think John Carden and Mary Crowley are the Joannais cudean and Mariae Crowley married in 1815 who had their children (at least some) baptised in the St Josephs Roman Catholic Church in  Bristol, parents Daniel and Mary Crowley, based on Mary's birth in 1792 christened at St Mary on the Quay. The christenings for their children Hannah, Elizabeth and Adelaide also known as Adela fit this couple perfectly. my ancestor Adelaide/Adela married into the Methodists and is buried in the Hebron Methodist churchyard in Bedminster. My guess is that Daniel is descended from Irish Ancestry but along way to go before I can prove that.

Best Wishes
