I have a postcard that was sent by my grandfather to his son with the 'sent' address given as "17 Railway Street" in Bath around 1900 - 1910. However, although I have found a Railway Street listed for that period, there is no reference anywhere to a number 17.
I would be grateful if anyone can shed any light on my 'mystery' address.

Hi Cynfran,
This Post Office directories of Bath for the period (www.historicaldirectories.org) only show the numbers on Railway Street going up to number 9. Have you tried looking up the name in these directories? Maybe there was a mistake in the address on the postcard and it should have been 7 Railway Street or 17 Railway Road?

Al

Hi Al
Thanks for responding. I had tried Historical Directories and found the number 9 limit as you mention.
Sorry, I should have pointed out that my grandfather only appears to have been visiting Bath and therefore his name is not recorded anywhere as an occupier.
I find it strange that he could have made such a mistake in address, unless he did not want his whereabouts identified! That is always a possibility, given what I know of his circumstances at the time.
