A great Uncle emigrated from UK to Rockhampton Queensland. Thomas Boniface Moore b 1895 in Manchester m. Mary Josephine Gallagher. Emigrated and served in Australian Army 1940 to 1945 d. 23rd March 1962. On his service record he lists next of kin as son Bryan Moore. here the trail goes completely cold as I do not know how to search in Australia. I do not have his date of birth but also would like to know if there were other siblings. Family lost all connection after emigration and last remaining family member from that era desperate for any info on the family after their arrival in Australia. If anyone can help with ideas of where to go would be grateful. Thanks Merry Christmas.

Hello there
Now where did you get his date of death from? also do you know where abouts he died? Australian death certificates lists the names of children :)
kind regards and Merry Christmas Jenn

Helle
by his WW2 record his date of birth is 31/10/1895 manchester england
I did note on the 1930 Electorall Roll for Concrod NSW
Thomas Boniface Moore 1 Daly Avenue Concord Elec Engineer.
Mary Josephine Moore same address home duties.
Did he marry in the UK or Australia?
regards Jenn
edit by Jenn after she found his wife at same address

.Thank you for that. This is definately him. They married in Liverpool in 1923 and the family think he then emigrated to Australia settling in Rockhampton. I have the necessary forms to complete to get the copy of the birth certificate sent over and I hope it will give me the children's names and dates of birth. This was a strong catholic family and have tried searching the rec ords for the death of the wife, Mary Josephine Moore nee Gallagher. The biggest problem seems to be that even with the name of the son Bryan Moore I cannot seem to find how to trace him in Australia. Thanks again for your kindness
Happy Christmas

Hi Lynn,
NSW BDM's are on-line at; www.bdm.gov.au these give births to 1906, marriages to 1956 & deaths to 1976.
Other state's bdm's are generally at something like; www.'state'. justice.com.au or www.'state'.bdm.gov.com.au.
Good luck,
Leonie.
-
Qld Bdm's only go to 1914 on line so if he died in Qld it isn't easy to access on line
regards Jenn
-
Hi Lynn
The NSW bdm url is
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm
The link given by Leonie is incorrect.....sorry to correct you Leonie ;)
There is a death in 1961 of a Mary Josephine MOORE at Balmain, NSW. with parents James and Catherine Teresa.
The are lots of resources, including bdm's at the top of this board under Australian Resources and then each State is listed individually.

Hi,
A question about the war service record if you don't mind.
Have you actually acquired a full record or are you just going on the index entry which we can see on the National Archives site and WW2 nomnal roll?
The reason I ask is that I do not see the word "son" anywhere so am presuming you know something we don't.
If you have seen the full record, the address of that NOK should be shown.
Another point, if that person is named as NOK, it suggests that either Thomas was no longer married to Mary Josephine or she was dead.
If you have not got a full record, you can request one.
Sue

thanks for your message. I have only seen the service record which gives Bryan Moore as the NOK. As the Moore family originate from Ireland over there even to this day the next of kin would always be the eldest son, not the wife or any older daughters. Don't know if this explains it. We are applying for the death certificate of Thomas Moore but being an impatiient so and so am trying to get the information that I can tell the elderly rellie that there was more than one child, maybe still living and other siblings and also children and grandchildren etc. Hey we are 37 minutes from Christmas Day. Happy Christmas and thanks to all for the help you are giving me. I am finding this all so exciting and all get your information from. Regards Lynn

Hello there
Please Please where did you get the date of death "23rd March 1962." and DO YOU KNOW WHAT AUSTRALIAN STATE HE DIED IN?
I guess you must if you are obtaining a deathcertificate
the reason I keep asking this question is we may be able to find where he is buried and then to see if his wife is buried with him ALSO sometiems a headstone can be very revealing

Hi Happy Christmas. thought I would turn the old computer on while waiting for the family. Someone on Genes Reunited found that he enlisted in the Army in I think 1942 was demobbed in 1945 next of kin Bryan in Rockhampton Queensland. They gave me a death date of 23rd October 1962. If only I can find an address or something on one of the children it would be such a great New Year gift for the family!! I presume he came to NSW firstly and then maybe moved to Queensland. Unfortunately the family tried for years and years to find him after he had emigrated. They were a very close, large family and I think it is only since the onset of programmes like Rootschat that I have been able to get anywhere. I really do appreciate all your help. Anything I can do this end or anything I can do for you.
Regards

Hi All,
Yes , Jenn. I had seen the next of kin 'Bryan" on ww2 and NAA. records Have you looked at this entry yourself Lyn? My query about it is this....
WHERE does it say son?
Nowhere that I can see. Have I missed it?
We really do not know that Bryan is a son. Lyn is assuming that. I think the person on Genes Reunited may have assumed something that is not written there. Only the full record, [not the entry shown on ww2] will give details of the person.
Just to add that the defence forces took next of kin to be not a matter of choice or 'tradition' but legally the person legally closest to you. You would have to give a good reason to nominate someone other than a wife unless she was dead or estranged.

Hi Lynn
Do you know the names of Mary Josephine's parents?
I note is that his date of birth on the WW2 record is incorrect by one year. Not unusual - which State have you applying for his death certificate? Just curious.
Cheers

Sorry for not contaqcting you all recently due to a hospital stay, fortunately not over Christmas. The parents of Mary Josephone Moore as far as I am aware I only have the father George Gallagher. ERverything is so sketchy as no one knew anything about him for a periods before he emigrated but he was married in Liverpool and one Mary Shaunessy was bridesmaid and that is about it. Am still patiently awaiting the death certificate but do not hold out much hope for details of whereabouts of child, children. Thanks to you all. Happy New Year.
-
Hi Lynn - Trust you are on the mend.
Where in Australia did you apply for the death certificate - Queensland or New South Wales?
Cheers

Hi cando I applied to Queensland as it seems hedied there in 19162. Do you know what I never thought it would be this hard to trace hoepfully living members of a family. Have hit a brick wall with my Aunt saying why can't we find them etc. Just keep going I suppose. Thansk for all your help though.

Hello. I am Thomas' grandson Andrew. I can talk you through the whole Australian family tree. Thomas remarried and had a second son - James (my dad).
There are three grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren via Brian and three grand children and 2 great grandchildren via James.
