Title: Cemeteries used by Islington/St Pancras
Post by: ec on Monday 03 January 05 01:15 GMT (UK)
I wonder if anyone can help - I am looking to try and find where various of my ancestors may be buried.  They all lived/died in Islington/Clerkenwell/St Pancras area, between 1890 and 1911, some adults, some children.  Does anyone have any ideas as to the most likely places they may be buried.  They appear to have had little money, but probably not paupers - occupations such as carman, mailcart driver, cabman etc.

Any pointers gratefully received.  Many thanks

Hi,

Maybe the City of London Cemetery - www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/corporation/our_services/health_safety/cemetery_crematorium/  then click on the link for details of the Burial Registers.

They have records of every burial since 1856. It is free to search the records during opening hours or they offer a search service for £15 per name per year.  The info is on the site.

I've only been there once to enquire about searching and they were very pleasant.

Hope this helps,
Regards, Emma ;)

Hi, ec,
Recently I visited the Camden Local Studies and Archives Centre at Holborn Library, 32-38 Theobalds Rd., London WC1 X8, and they gave me a list of cemeteries for the Islington, St Pancras area.  I cannot find the list at the moment, but their telephone number is 020 8392 5300; website is www.camden.gov.uk/localstudies   ; e-mail address is <localstudies@camden.gov.uk

When I went they were not at all busy, and the staff very VERY helpful.  There are a great many cemeteries and churchyards in the area, as I expect you already know!
Very best wishes,
Keith

Good luck
