Hello

I'm doing a bit of 'housekeeping' and noticed this rather old request.

Are you still looking for the information?  If so, please provide any additional information you have which may assist a successful lookup.

Regards
Jonathan

Yes I am still Looking for information, On Thomas Crook and family, All I know is that in 1842 the Family was living on Coduit Street Westminster. In 1851  Alfred Crook was born in Tottenham to James and Harriett Burgess Crook.
The Family "stories" claim that James Crook was killed While serving in the military but have not been able to confirm that .
the information I have on Thomas is scarce, After 1842 I do not have anything.
James Crook wife living in Tottenham in 1861 with Children Alfred and Edward and niece Elizabeth Matthews.
Any info would be of GREAT HELP
Thank You Mary

Hello
I am not sure if I am Posting in the right Place.
Some Children that show up in the 1861 Census for this Family are not listed in the 1851.
Was it a unusual for children to live with other family members?
Mary

Hi Mary

Not that unusual.

If you post the names, birth years and birthplaces I'll have a look for them if you like to see what I can find.

Hello Jonathan
You are Quick !! :)
In The 1861 Census Harriett has another child Edward B. 1847, St. George Hanover Square.
Also I am not Sure about this one. But This Family came to the U.S in 1865.
In the same county of Ohio lived John Crook B. London Middlesex 1844.
I have found this  same John J. Crook moving to the same Pa. County as  Alfred Crook in 1881.
I have found John J. Crook"s civil war record and on this record he is also known as John J. Burgess. Burgess is Harriet Crook's maiden name.  Do you know of any reason why he would use his Mothers surname.
Thanks
Mary

Hi Mary

Re: Edward

There is an Edward Crook, visitor  b 1847 in London living with a William and Fanny Harty/Harry or similar family in Wiltshire in 1851.

Make any sense?

Hi Jonathan
No does not make any sense. I am totally ignorant of the distances between counties of England.  I live in Ohio in the United States.
It is quite possible this is my Edward.
Was it comman for Families to move around often ?  Where is Wiltshire in relationship to Middlesex.
Thanks for the reply ;). You are a geneology angel.

Hi Mary

London vs Wiltshire, about 200 miles.  Families did move around surprisingly often.

I'm  happy to help but would be good if you had any additional information about the Crook families, eg parents names/occupations as just in middlesex alone there are 400+ Crook individuals in 1851.

If you can provide some additional information I, or someone else, will be happy to have a further dig for you.

Regards
Jonathan  :)

Hello Jonathan
This is what I know for sure.
Alfred  Samuel Crook my GG Grandfather B. #3 Bruce Cottage, Tottenham, Middlesex, Jan. 1851,
Died North Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling West Virginia, Jna. 20, 1920.
Alfred S. Parents James Crook B. Unknown Occupation in 1842 Tailor.
Harriet Burgess B. 1821 Tiverton, Somerset. Died Brookfield Ohio.
James and Harriet Married March 27, 1842 in the Parish Church @ St. George Hanover Square, County of Middlesex.
On Marriage certificate Residence at time of Marriage Conduit Street, Westminster.  Married after Banns. Wittnesses William Crisfield and Hannah Margaret Thorburn.
Father of James Crook Thomas Crook Birth unknown Occupation 1842 Clothworker.
Father of Harriet John Burgess B. unknown Occupation 1842 Clothworker.
I visted with a great Aunt a few years ago and according to Family history James was killed while serving in the Military.  I have not been able to confirm this information. She had claimed "the  Boys " were sent to the U.S to avoid serving in the Military. Ironic considering John served in the Civil War.
I have been researching this family for 4 years and have had little luck in English research.  If you have any sugestions of where I might look PLEASE let me know.
Considering naming Patterns is it not odd that James and Harriet did not name any Children James or Thomas ?
Thank you so much for the Help.
Again any where you can suggest .   It is a bit difficult living in the U.S.

Thank You ;D

Hi Mary

Well, back to Edward living in Wiltshire, the head of the family is a Hand Loom Weaver (Woollen Cloth). So that may make sense with your fuller explanation possibly?

back in a minute

No sense. What is a clothworker?  Can that be a step below a Tailor?  :: ???  Could Harriet"s Children benn living with realatives because James had Died?
I have looked at the BMD for a death record for James. NO Luck. Where else can I look.
Thank you SO much for your help. This Family is my Paternal main branch.

Hi Mary

Tailor is a profession really, though varied.  Cloth worker, well could mean anything really to do with the textile industry as it's not specific but a lower order than tailor I would imagine, but I would say those occupations are in the same line so to speak.

For James's death, you could look here http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/LogonServlet it is a paysite but it is the complete index.  Also, it would be reasonably easy to narrow down the years to look at since Alfred was 1 in 1851 and Harriet was a widow at the time.

Hope that helps a bit.

Cheers
Jonathan

Hello
I have searched every BMD site on the web.  And have not found the death record of James Crook.  I know His last child was born Jan. of 1850 @ Tottenham England.  And James wife Harriett was listed as a widow in the 1851 Census.  I believe the 1851 was in March?  But still no Luck.  An elderly Aunt once told me James was killed while serving in the Military. She claimed this was the reason for the Families immigration to the States.
Is there a place on line where I may find military deaths around 1850/51?

Thanks Mary
