Hi Friends
This is a photo of my great aunt Bertha and her husband, at the Lovers' Seat, Hastings. I would guess it was taken in the 1920s.
I would love to see it coloured, if anyone fancies a challenge! :D :D :D
Many thanks, and Merry Christmas to you all!!
Judy ;)

Judy

Hi again Caz!! ;D ;D
Thanks too for the black and white! You have made it much clearer!

Judy ;)
-
On the basis that you can never have too many versions. A try from me.
Rog
-
Hi Carol ;)
Im not very keen on sepia :-\ I always think it makes photos look dingy and dull :D
I love to see them restored in colour, as it brings new depth and life to them, I think.
But! Each to his (or her) own ;D ;D ;D ;D
Judy ;)
-
Absolutely...and it is your pic...so it's your choice girlie :D :D :D :D
Here's what I found earlier 8)...I would want to order this postcard :D :D :D

Hi Rog ;) ;) ;)

Hi Judy
Here's a resized B/W for starters
Mudge
PS Many thanks for starting up the "Congratulations" thread, the response was overwhelming, and I was very moved by the many comments received :) :) :)
Pity it had to be hijacked by the Moderator, I know not why ??? ??? ??? Perhaps she's a cat hater ;D ;D
-
Hi again Carol!! :D
How clever of you to find that photo of the Lovers' Seat!!! :o
It must have been quite an attraction in its day! Perhaps a photographer was perched on a nearby rock waiting to persuade people to have their photos taken! I would love to know if it is still there, but I fear not! Probably an ice-cream van parked there now ;D ;D ;D
Thanks again!
Judy ;)
-
hi Mudge ;)
Thanks so much for the black and white version! You have done a lovely job there!
Glad you enjoyed the thread I started! It was a chance for everyone to say thank you for all the excellent work you have done! Trouble is, I don't suppose many of the other restorers saw it, as they don't wander too far off this board I think! :D ;D ;D
Anyway, enjoy the praise! You deserve it!!!
And thanks again for this super restore :o
Judy ;)
-
Hi Judy....You Twisted my arm....now you've gotta wrap presents in return ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Carol
-
Ah Carol! ;) ;)
That is so lovely! :o :o What lovely bright and vibrant colours 8) 8) Many, many thanks! ::) ::)
Now, I would wrap your presents for you, Carol, but I am sure you could do them a lot more artistically than I could ;) ;) ;) ;D ;D ;D
Thanks again, Judy ;) ;)
-
May I ask a hyperthetical question, as its not my picture, but I'm just interested in what the clever restorers can do ?
That graffiti on the wall behind the lovers ... is it technically possible to remove something like that and restore it to rock ?
(Wonderful work, by the way ! My favourite thread, the picture restorations !)
-
Yes Lydart.
It can be done.
Rog
-
Hi Lydart...Yes it's quite easy to do....I would love to know what it says....It looks like it's supposed to be there so I left it....
Judy....glad you like it....it's a bit bright for my taste but I knew it is probably how you would like it as they print off paler anyway....that's assuming you would want to ::) ::)...Oh....B.T.W...the wrapping is done 8)
Carol
-
Hi Carol ;)
Of course I will be printing it out :D :D :D
I print out all the restores I have done - I've got several folders full now ;D :P :P
Glad you finished the wrapping :P :P I'm sure it all looks very tasteful! ::) ::) Can't wait to open my present :P :P :P
I think the graffiti adds to the charm of the photo. Perhaps if someone lives near there they could have a look for us and see what it says!
Judy ;)
-
Lydart,
With & without graffiti
Rog
-
Thats clever ... I guess you must use the spray can device ? I'm just working my way through Paint Shop Pro widgets and thingummy bobs ...
-
Spray can !!!!! >:( >:( >:( >:(
Now that really is graffiti!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Polyfilla and an environmentally sensitive water based touch up paint.
Rog
-
Hi Rog !!
that sounds like the contents of my make-up bag :D :D :D :D
-
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D....I like that Judy ;D ;D....mine too ::) ::)...I went into the Body Shop the other day...and said to the assistant..."Can you help me"...she said "Sorry...It's too late"... ;D ;D ;D
Carol
-
My problem is the "do gooders" who want to know if I need a shelter for Christmas. I was only window shopping.
Rog
-
Have you two been at the Christmas sherry ???
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
you both made me laugh out loud! That can't be bad!!! :D :D :D :D
-
Not yet!
I'm actually sitting nursing a box of Kleenex and trying not to make a mess of the screen.
I think all the tablets are making me light headed.
Rog
-
Ah, poor Rog :'( :'( :'(
Sorry to hear you are feeling poorly :-[
Hope you get well soon :)
Judy ;)
-
Aw dear Rog :-\...you need a little "Night Nurse" me thinks :P :P :P
Carol
-
Well, to get back to the subject :P :P my great aunt on this photo was a nurse! Not sure if she did night duties though :-\ :-\ ;D ;D
-
Sorry to butt in but there is serious work to be done ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
Here's my colour version to add to the excellent portfolio you have already aquired
Happy Xmas all
Mudge
PS Roger, why don't you raid the cooking sherry ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
Oooooo!....Judy...we've done it now.....Just the mention of "Nurse" and Mudge appears right on cue :P :P :P :P :P :P
Carol
-
Hi Mudge :D :D :D wow!! :o :o
That is stunning! Thanks so much! (I knew you would be posting soon when I mentioned she was a nurse ;D ;D)
Seriously, it's super! Many thanks for another lovely version!!
Judy ;)
-
hi Carol!!
our messages crossed in the post, I think !!
But as they say, great minds etc...
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
And just for Lydart
without graffiti
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Mudge
-
Clever old Mudge ;) ;) ;)
-
Here's mine: I used a contrast mask to reduce the contrast, then a screen overlay to lighten the faces (masked out from the rest of the picture with a layer mask). Then added some colour layers but only coloured around the couple. Finally, added a blur overlay (35%).
-
Wow Arnie :o :o :o
That is stunning!! It is really lovely!! Super colouring!! Many thanks!! :D :D
Judy ;)
