Can anyone please help, I am looking for my Great Grand Father Charles Louis Watkins. He claims to have been born in London in 1869.
The first we know of him is 1891 where he is a Lodger in Astwood Bank, Worcestershire. A carpenter aged 22 from London.
He married Esther Jane Parker in 1894. Aged 25 a carpenter. The fathers name space contains the following "Was a workhouse + never knew his father".
We have also found the correct entry in the 1901 census.
Unfortunately he died in 1908 in a work place accident although a sad event has a humorous side.
Any help or advice greatfully received.

Thanks once again for those who have helped me.
I ordered the Birth Cert for Charles Lewis Watkins.
It states:
Born 7 Jan 1869 at the Queen Charlotte Hospital Marylebone Road.
Name and surname of father is blank.
Name surname and maiden surname - Jane Watkins
Occupation of father is blank
Signature, description and residence of informant - Jane Watkins, Mother, 48 Inverness Terrace, Kensington
Does anybody have access to the records for the hospital or who else might be living at Inverness Terrace at that time.
Any help gratefully received.

48 Inverness Terrace was empty in the 1871 census. By the looks of things, Jane was probably a servant for one of the houses along that road. I can't see any Watkins at Inverness Terrace by 1871.
http://www.institutions.org.uk/hospitals/england/lon/london_lying_in_hospital.htm - you can get Queen Charlotte's Hospital records at the LMA (when it reopens, that is!)

Thanks again Jorose.
