Hi I am investigating a family legend which unfortunately I have very little information.
The story I have involves a touring Canadian ice hockey team which were in Birmingham in May 1935 & probably more specifically Aston….
There isn’t a lot to go on here but that’s all I have.
I am a little computer tied & I am sure a trip to the library in Birmingham would reveal loads but I am unable to make the trip. Can anyone help me out. I am not sure if it is a national Canadian team or what but either way I imagine such a thing would make the papers.
Cheers

I believe the only ice rink in B'ham at that time was Spring Hill ice rink. This was on the border of Ladywood/Hockley very near to Aston.
Not much help I know :(

I found a reference to the 'Birmingham Maple Leafs'
Apparently their home rink was: ''Birmingham Ice Skating Rink' ~ Summerhill Road - opened in 1931. 'Purchased by Mecca in the early 1960s and known as the Mecca Ice Rink. Closed in 1964.'
It states that it was 'Home ice for : Warwickshire 1931-35, Birmingham Maple Leafs 1935-38, Birmingham Barons 1961-64'.
Team colours : white & black
Honours : Won the English League 1935-36.
It's on the site mentioned earlier.
I noticed the name 'Maple Leafs', which might indicate a link with Canada.
