Title: RYAN - Silvermines
Post by: nortybaby on Friday 14 December 07 22:32 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find more Irish detail on my g-grandmother's family in Silvermines.

Her details are:

B:     14 June 1861 - should be correct as has been verified from family sources both here in Aus and in Ireland.
M:     21 February 1889 in Melbourne Victoria to Thomas Keating (they had 7 children)
D:     28 August 1925 in Melbourne Victoria

She emigrated to Australia in ?1886 (where she met and married TK) with her sister Bridget (Bridget married Charles Fletcher in Australia - she was maybe younger than Susan). Parents are listed on the marriage cert as James Ryan and Kate/Katherine ?OConnell ( I think this surname is correct - could be O'Donnell - the writing on the marriage cert is a little spidery!)

If anyone has any thoughts/ideas I would be most grateful.

Cheers.

Hi.  When you say "Silvermines", you are referring to the Roman Catholic parish, right?

Since Bridget was supposedly younger than Susan, you should be able to find her birth certificate recorded by the Silvermines registrar -- if she was born after Jan. 1864 and if her parents followed the new law that said they had to register the birth with the government.  That  certificate would contain her parents' townland.

Hello

Do you have baptismal certificate? If so, who were the godparents - this is a useful way of narrowing down the different Ryan families in Silvermines.

I think it may be O'Donnell? I don;t recall OÇonnell in Silvermines parish

Hi,

I am involved in the Ryan gathering in August 2013 in Thurles. I have been commissioned to do sample research into Ryan families. If you are interested in being our Australian examples, it means I can research the family for free for you but you have to agree to share photos and stories on a public display to show the process of family research.

If you are interested, you can contact me by sending me a private message and I will give you my direct email.

thanks. Cecile
