Hi Squilery,

Does your mother in law remember when her father died; could it have been in WW2?

Is he shown as deceased on her marriage certificate?

Hello Squilery and welcome to Rootschat!

You say "mother Sarah Price, father Thomas Lloyd". Is that literally what the certificate says, or does it say Sarah Lloyd, formerly Price, or some such?

Another thought:  could he have used Trevor rather than Ewart?

A quick look at 1901 online shows an 18 year old Trevor Lloyd, born Monmouth, working as an Iron Mongers assistant at Builth.

Do you know his occupation?

Hi and welcome to Rootschat

I found this entry in 1891 Wales census for Armor E Lloyd, I'm sure it's Trevor on original.

RG12/4567 F40 P 10
Bank House, Builth

Sarah Lloyd 42, widow, b Brecon
Harry S 9, b Cwbran, Mon
Armor E 8, b Cwbran Mon
Gilbert T 7 b Cwbran

Perhaps someone else could take a look and see.

If you scroll down the page a bit there's a Thomas whose capital T looks very very similar.

Well done Sheila  :D

I think we were typing that at the same time Meles  ;D it paused before posting,but then went ahead anyway!

The 1901 Trevor has been mistranscribed as Frevar,but again I think he's Trevor.Living with his aunt 50 year old Martha Price.

Well done Carol - That's definitely Trevor on the original.  How many ways can you mistranscribe Trevor.    ::)

I'm not sure of place locations in Wales.  Could this be the marriage of Thomas Lloyd and Sarah Price?   :-\

March Quarter 1880 - Bedwelty
Thomas Lloyd/Sarah Price on same page.  Vol 11a P 95.

Hi Squilery, and a warm welcome to RootsChat.

There are boards for all the Welsh counties, as well as this one ... if you have more questions re Welsh things; the people who read those boards may be more knowledgeable than those who read the general ones ?

Good luck ... ask some more questions, and see what we can do for you !

thanks again,
I have spoken to my m-in-law
She cant remember when her dad died but he is on her marriage certificate (as Edward.....she just noticed when i asked her to look, no wonder I couldn't find him, how many names can they make up!!) however did you find him? She got married in 1950
Ewart Trevor Lloyd was known as trev....... now she tells me
He was an ironmonger
The aunt he lived with was called Ginny by the family but must have been this Martha Price. she never married and I found her in Marylebone London in1891 census as a dressmaker
cant find Sarah price in 1871 unless she was married to Francis or the daughter of the rev Price in llandridnod

How do you know when you have the right one???
This has got me hooked I am still at the computer........
Thanks for your help

Hi,

If you think that the Thomas & Sarah marriage (1880) that Sheila found is the correct one, then the certificate should show the name and occupation of Sarah's father.   Using that information you can, hopefully, find her on the earlier census.

Hi Squilery

I'm pleased you now have a starting point.   ;D  I've struggled to find them in 1881 (not certain if they were already married).  I did find this entry which made me wonder as the MIL is called Price.

RG11/5271 F39 P27
16 Shop Row, Llanvihangel Llantarnam, Mon

Thos. Lloydd 54, Head, Draper, b Llangadock Carmarthen
Sarah 36, Wife, b Builth Brecon
Elizabeth Price 64, MIL, b Llangammch
+ Miriam Nash 19, Servant

In your original post you say you have Ewart Trevor's birth cert.  This should show his father's occupation.

Yes yes yes he was a draper on the birth certificate you clever thing. How exciting

I am looking forward to this evening and telling Marjory about it
i will send for the marriage certificate

Poor Sarah Price she seems to have been left with three boys in three years, perhaps her sister gave up her dressmaking to help , as the one thing that Marge (m in law) remembers is that he was brought up by Aunt Ginnie where were the other boys?  Harry s lloyd (Known as Stan) and gilbert t Lloyd ( remembered as Gill)

I am writing this all out to show Marj and Mary (her older sister)

Thankyou all loads

Hi Squilery

That sounds promising.  ;D

In 1901 Harry Lloyd 19 b Cwmbran Monmouthshire, occupation 'Assistant in School' is a boarder in the household of William Hood, Schoolmaster at 64 Lordship Road, Stoke Newington, London.

RG13/205 F32 P56
~~~~~~~~-
Found this entry in Wales 1901 for Gilbert P Lloyd, although the initial P is not clear, it could well be S.
RG13/5031 F31 P8
9 Park Terrace, Upper Myrthyr Tydfil
Henry Parfitt 50, Boilermaker & Engineer, b Beaufort Brecon
Jane M 5?, b Ebbw Vale
Alfred 16, Steam Engine Fitter, b Ebbw Vale
Thomas W Lloyd 53, BIL, single, Clerk in Engineers Office, b Ebbw Vale
Gilbert P? Lloyd 18, Half Bro, Ironmongers Apprentice, b Cwbran Monmouthshire
+ Elizabeth Richards 17, Servant
I wonder if he is half brother to Henry Parfitt or Thomas Lloyd.  :-\
I was intrigued as to who Gilbert was half brother to so checked earlier census.
1871 RG10\5325 F30 P24-25
Victoria Road, Bedwelty
Thos Lloyd 49, Draper, b Llanadog Carm
Margaret 53, Brecon
Thos W 23, Drapers Assist, Victoria, Monmouthshire
Jane M 21, Dressmaker, Ebbw Vale
1861 RG9/4005 F67 P30
Spencer St., Bedwelty
Thomas Lloyd 38, Draper & Grocer, b Llangadock, Carm
Margaret 43, b Brecon
Thomas W 13, b Ebbw Vale
Jane 11, b Ebbw Vale
So, it looks as though Gilbert was half brother to Thomas Lloyd and in 1901 they were both visiting sister Jane.
Margaret must have died between 1871/81and Thomas snr married Sarah Price
Hope this helps.
Hi
I am the Great Grandson of the Lloyd (Jones) Price mentioned by JAP in this post.
I would be interested in receiving PMs from others researching the descendants of Isaac Price and Elizabeth Price (nee Jones).
Thanks
In the 1901 census Gilbert P. Lloyd (half brother) and a brother of Ewart Trevor Lloyd was living with them in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorganshire, Wales.
Thomas was a draper. He was baptized 9-29-1822 Carregswthey, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire Wales. His parents were William Lloyd and Jane "Jennie" Roberts. His family immigrated to the USA in 1847. He was the only one to stay in Wales. Both parents and they youngest brother, Benjamin, died on the same day in 1849 of cholera, leaving William T. (b. 1829), David W. Gilbert Price Lloyd married Alice Ellen Meyrick in Barnstaple, Devon England 12-24-1914 according to newspaper index card on ancestry. Harry Stanley Lloyd was a school teacher at Stoke Newington London, England in 1901 and a teacher at the Scudamore School, Hereford, England in 1911. I sure wish they had more info online about this family. I would love pictures of Thomas Lloyd, Sarah Price Lloyd and their children. Thanks for all this info.
