				Hi Spacot

Thank you for taking the time to look at Burnside MI,s.  The info you have provided may connect one day as I am sure all the Burnsides in that area will be connected but I cannot connect them to my tree at present.  I have from SP James Burnside died 1856 Thornton,Innerwick and his son also James Burnside died 1891 Garvald as they are not mentioned on your list of MI,s I think they must have been buried without stones.   I visited Garvald cemetery 5years ago with no luck,a lot of the stones are so weathered.

Curious about your Burnside connections, just incase we connect.

Do you mind if I send some other names along, most of my ancestors where from East Lothian.

				Hi again,

Thank you again for all of those, I've kept a note of them and will need to look through them to see if there are any connections. :) My Browns were mainly Dunbar, so I don't think they would be included in any of the records.

 Thank you once again,

Generous offer Spacot, thank you.  My great great grnadfather, John Young appears in the 1841 Census for Crowhill, Innerwick but then disappears (along with one son David) byt he 1851 census.  His wife and younger sons are still there but listed as paupers.  I assume he died between 1841 and 1851 but have been unable to find a record.  Could you check your MIs for me please?

				Dear Lynn (Spacot),

Can you help me out as you generously did last year? I am looking for the burials of the Black family, mainly from the Innerwick, Stenton and Dunbar areas. I have the following names and dates:

 Archibald Black (b. 1787)
son of Charles Black (dates unknown) and Jean Hogg (b. 1755)

Archibald is likely to have died between 1859 and 1896, so likely won't be mentioned unless he was buried with his parents. Any help would be appreciated. :)

 Thank you again,
 hume24

				Dear Lynn again,

I apologise for posting so soon after my last message, but I have since found that Archibald died after 1855 in Prestonkirk, so therefore won't be mentioned in the books you have. Charles died in Dunbar in 1823 (after re-marrying) but I still don't have a death date for Jean Hogg. Can I ask again for any info. you might find on her? Thank you. :)

				Hi Tom and KAMA,

Not that I want to detract from this thread's value, but in case you don't get a reply from Lynn (Spacot), who was last online in August, you could always check East Lothian burial records at http://freereg.rootsweb.com/. I've always found them quite complete and accurate, although they do advise you check the original register. Hopefully you will find your families there. :)

Thanks for looking.  My reason for asking was that one of my forebears Jean/Jane Young was born in Spott 1805 to Alexander Young and Anne Downie. I haven't found the marriage of her parents, unless there was forename change - Alexander Young married Margaret Downie 1791, recorded in Spott OPR. There are a few candidates for the parents of this Alexander and a record on a MI might just have helped.
 Thanks once again

What a very generous offer. :) I don't want to ask too much, but I'm looking for Gillan/Gillon/Gillane in Oldhamstocks, Spott and Innerwick? I also have Wallaces in Innerwick/Spott.

 Thank you,

In Dunbar Methodist Church there is grafitti on the walls of the pump room (it's actually a very small space rather than a room) there is the name of a Peter Gillan late 1800's. Presumably he was a boy to fit into such a small place. Anyway, if anyone has details of him I would be interested to hear.

Hi, I was looking for george Bell and marion anderson who married  in 1827 and when i googled  just in a wild hit and hope i came across the names archibald anderson and jean hogg- marion's parents names- my 5 x great grandfather and grandmother.

There was a list on Andersons you put down and i wasnt too sure if they were children of this couple or just anderson names and dates.

 thanks in advance,

 Andrew

 Hi MacT,

Thanks for your reply to my post. :) I do have two Peter Gillans in my family tree; one born 1859 in Oldhamstocks and later moved to Spott, and then Dunbar. The other born 1895 in Spott was his son, and he died 1954 in Dunbar. However, there was a few fishing families with the name Gillan (variants were Gullen and Gullane) and Peter was quite a common name with them, so it could easily be one of them I'm afraid. Am I right in saying the Methodist Church is on Victoria St? Think I remember seeing it when I was up the year before last.

 Thanks again,

				Hi Spacot

				Hi Barbara,

I have the MI book for the East Lothian parishes also, but there's no mention of this family in it.

 Is this them in 1861?

 Address: Bara, Garvald, Haddingtonshire
John Hogg, head, mar., 50, shepherd, b. Ormiston
 Margaret Hogg, wife, 53, -, b. Gladsmuir
Margaret Hogg, dau., unm., 32, outworker, b. Morham
Alexander Hogg, son, unm., 14, outworker, b. Prestonkirk

				Thankyou hume
Yes,I think that is them ,though the daughter, Margaret is new to me and John was born in Cranston,Midlothian according to other census & IGI. I am not sure where Ormiston is - will have to get the map out.
I should have said; John was born 1808 & was the informant on Margaret's death cert in 1865 and also not noted as deceased on his son, Robert's marriage cert in 1869.
 Much appreciated
 Barbara :)

				Hi Barbara,

Ormiston is in Haddingtonshire, but quite close to the county border with Midlothian. I suppose he could have been mistaken where he was born, or just chose the largest town depending on when he was asked. Definitely his death certificate would confirm parents' names.

That's the problem though - he doesn't want to be found. With such a narrow time frame and a relatively uncommon name, you would think it easy. :-\ Possibly moved out of country (did any children move far afield?) or re-married, and the son "disowned" him if it were. Or just a really bad transcription error!

Yes,that is the problem - I have 18 possible deaths on SP,just hoping a MI would pin him down.Maybe I will look at the re- marriage angle - or the marriages of some of the other children. There were 7 of them.
I think I did look for the girls' marriages ,thinking he may have gone to live with a daughter.Though  you are probably right & it is a transcription error ??? I have been stuck with John for a while now,so will just have to be patient.
 Thanks for your help

				Hello Spacot,
Does your offer still stand for look ups for Innerwick MI's.
If so I would be grateful for a look up for Margaret Tory died 1826 and anyone else buried in the same grave .
 Many thanks
 Jane

				Hi Jane,

I was just checking in here and I noticed you hadn't a reply to your post. I also have a copy of the MI books so thought I would take a look for you.

There is only mention of a Margaret Tor[r]y in Innerwick; however, the gravestone (when recorded) does not appear to be in good condition hence the lack of full information.

In memory of Peter Sherrif, 18th July 1[802 aged 5-] years, also Margaret, - August 17[9-] & Peter [- August 1805 ---], wife Margaret Torry, - June 18-- aged 80 ---- (four lines) ---- (Ed: per IGI, children Jean bapt Innerwick March 1772, Margaret bapt December 1773 (father named as Patrick), William bapt May 1782, Peter bapt August 1787, Thomas bapt May 1791 (all with father named Peter)

 Hope this helps. :)

Many thanks for your reply hume.
I did get a PM from one of the members.
Sadly it looks like this is not my Margaret Tory.
 The search goes on.

				Hi Boston 14,

Could you be more specific on which Sansons and Dick(i)sons you are interested in.
I am doing a GOONS on the surname Sanson and have all the Scottish Sanson's researched and can tell any thing their is on any specific Sanson, as far as the Dicksons are concerned I have had a quick look and their are too many to list, however as you include the Dickison's I am surmising it might be Thomas Sanson and Margaret Dickison in Innerwick/Oldhamstocks you are interested in as I know from my research she is the only Dickison to be found in the records.  I think it started as a typo!,  their is no grave record for her I have been trying to find her for 20+ years. Also I know some of their family went to Boston.
Let me know who you are interested in and I will send all I have on their ancestry.

				Hi ajjbc,

				Hi again,

I have looked on all the East Lothian MI's and can find no trace of your Andrew, I am sorry to be of so little help, I have found a Redpath MI in Innerwick, Spott, Stenton, Whittinghame and Yester but they are mainly wives.  I did find an Alexander Redpath burying his father in 1801 in Spott, but he is not your Andrew , wrong wife, Could he be a brother ?, Will send all the details if you want.  I also checked Dunbar, Dirlington, Westermost parishes, North Berwick and Berwickshire, also no luck.
