Hello Rootschatters! I can't seem to find Winifred Bessell's birth nor her being with any of her family before she married Albion Percy Alderson in June 1899 in Kingston, Surrey. Based on her year of marriage, as well as her husband's birth year (1871) I am thinking she should be in the same time frame. However, I cannot seem to find her birth in freeBMD nor can I find her as a single girl in 1881 in Kingston, Surrey. Obviously, it appears that her name must have been mis-transcribed. :'( Following her marriage in Kingston in 1899, she and her husband had children through 1915 at least - all born in Kingston, Surrey. Can anyone help me find her? Thank you kindly! Pat

Hi Pat
Browsing in Google and found this site so I joined. Saw your question about Winnifred Bessell, who is my 2nd cousin twice removed, answered by Barbara. I have a few more details and a photo of W with her husband and mother Laura and more Bessell information if you are interested.

Hi Brian,
Welcome to Rootschat! :D
That's very good news for Pat, I see that I never did find the family in 1881, do you have the details?
Barbara :)

Hello Barbara, Sorry for the delay in posting a reply, but I was busy trying to gather information on this family. ??? I gets complicated, but I will try to make it brief -- there were TWO Thomas Aldersons born about the same time in the NorthEast of England and each married a woman named Elizabeth from County Durham. I was getting more details on the Thomas A.(lbion) Alderson, age 37 in the 1881 census....That gent and his wife and children do belong to Brian's line. Sadly, I have now concluded that the "other" Thomas Alderson, age 34 and his family are "mine." So, although Brian and I are not related in this generation of Aldersons, perhaps there will be a link a wee bit further back. Also, perhaps it was serendipity that led Brian to Rootshat! ;D Thanks for your help, Barbara. Sincerely, Pat

Hi Barbara
Have the family in 1851 census through 1901 but 1881 missing. Should have mentioned that my Bessell family originated in Mitcham, Surrey but back in the earlier centuries the name was spelled Beswell/Biswell and several variations but when they drifted to London it became Bessell, suppose it depended on how the clerk/priest writing the name down heard the pronunciation of the speaker.
