Hi everyone,
I have a missing person from 1841 George Fisher born C1820 either in Thompson Norfolk or Barton Mills. Later Census entries show his birth place as Barton Mills Suffolk.
There is a likely candidate showing up as a convict in Norwich Castle. Can anyone help shed some light on this. Are Prison records available from this period and if so are they likely to give me the information I am looking for.
I hope someone out there is able to help.

Can you tell us which year he appears as a convict at Norwich, I beleive there are registers of convicts, but its most likly you will need a year of conviction.

Hi, Thanks for the reply.
Sorry for not making it clear, The year is 1841, RG No. HO107 Piece 791 Book/Folio 8 Page 1
This entry shows his place of birth as Norfolk however he later appears in Lincoln 1851-1871 giving his place of birth as Barton Mills Suffolk. I have been unable to find his baptism I suspect that it is going to be either Thompson or Barton Mills. George's Father was born in Thompson but all of his younger siblings were born in Barton Mills. George was the only one of the Siblings to move North, most of them ended up in service in London.
It would be great to find the reason for George leaving the rest of his family.
Any help would be much appreciated
regards Steve

Steve, I am making a seach of data i have for the area of Thompson, can you tell me George's father name (Bn Thompson) + Wifes name + maiden name,
The 1841 entry was this Barton mills or Thompson as i cannot see a fisher on the Thompson census CD, I know there were Fisher family from nr by Tottington.

George was the son of George And I believe Frances Ann (No surname) Baptism 15/02/1795 at St Martin Thompson
By 1841 They Appear in Barton Mills Suffolk minus Son George,
I have been unable to find any other Fisher families in the area with the correct birth places and name combinations.
George the son Married Harriett Hempshall in Lincoln in 1848
George Snr was the son of Thomas Fisher & Lydia Elsey
Thomas possibly the son of Charles & Ann
I hope this helps & thank you for your help.
Once again Regards Steve

Still searching.
But one thought is, George may have been bn Thompson but Baptized Barton Mills.
I don't seem to be able to find a George Fisher to a Frances Ann from the 1801-1837 Norfolk Marriages, perhaps married in Barton Mills Suffolk , you might try the Suffolk Roots chat.

Hi Steve
We discourage duplicate requests as they can often result in members going over the same ground without realising it. For this reason, I have deleted your Suffolk post.
If you would like me to move this post over to the Suffolk board then I will gladly do so.
Kind Regards
