Title: Can anyone help with this photograph?
Post by: Ghostbuster on Sunday 02 December 07 15:31 GMT (UK)
I bought this old photograph from a charity shop in Chester-le-Street, the shop assistant and myself can not figure out where the location is.  It looks like it was taken some time ago, maybe late Victorian and the road sign on the right hand street is called 'Front Street' (not exactly uncommon)  I'm suggesting it maybe from around the County Durham area, maybe near Chester le Street.  Could anyone help me figure out where it might be?

Thanks

Chappie

Hi,

A very interesting photograph which for some reason reminds me of Langley Park. I wonder if it features in any of the local history book series?

I have no idea if it features in any books, I don't really know Langley Park well although I've heard of it.  I'll see if anywhere has any old photographs of the area

Cheers

My current A-Z of Tyne & Wear has 26 Front Streets listed in Durham (DH postcode) and about the same in the NE postcode area. There is one in Great Lumley. It looks like the main street - an East - West street leading from Back Lane (West) to the A1(M) in the East.

Cheers for that, I'm looking at maps and all sorts of images online to see If I can find any similarities in road lay outs etc as is on the photograph.  I'll have a look at Lumley when I next go through that way, Thanks  :)
