Thanks for that info. Have you any record for Williams wife? I am a little confused as I understand there are 2 sets of Jeal family from Oxted, if you can shed any more light on this would appreciate it.
Thanks again

The 1841 doesn't list relationships, but by the ages it seems pretty clear that Sarah is his wife.Don't forget, on that census the adult ages could be rounded up or down by 5 years.
I'll see if I can find any of them in 1851 for you.

Have found Obed in 1851- down as GEAL.
Working on a farm in Tandridge, Oxted, Surrey as an ag lab.
The poor kid's only 12 !!!
Will try for the others next

The Jeal family in 1851 are still at Old House Oxted, transcribed this time as Joal ;D
William Jeal head 54 ag lab b Westerham Kent
Sarah wife 56 b Oxted (as is everyone else)
William 24 unm gardener
Harriett 21 unm at home
George 16 unm labourer
Thomas Kitchener 48 unm lodger ag lab
HO 107/ 1600 folio 183 page 49
Can't seem to see the 'other' Jeal family though?
Have corrected the spelling errors on the website.

And then in 1851 there's also this lot 8)
In Tandridge(which apears to be part of Oxted)
HO107/ 1600 folio 143 page 6
Transcribed as Geal
Thomas head 59 Ag lab b Limpsfield Surrey
Sarah wife 52 b Tandridge
Thomas son 27 ag lab b Tandridge
Henry son 19 ag lab b "
Sarah Geal 2 grandaughter b Bletchingly Surrey
This sounds more like your Thomas who married a year later ;)

The 1851 census for Oxted lists both these names"living in" with Edward Kelsey,a local landowner and farmer.Their details being,

Not sure if you are aware or not but there are still families called Jeal and Geal living in the Oxted area. My lot lay claim to the "G".

Hi Clair
Have only got just got back into this site so have only just read your post. Anyway I didnt know there were any Jeals still in Oxted. If they are part of my ancestery I am not in contact with any of them. If you have any info on them maybe you could post what you have and it may tie up with something I have.
