This is a good site to find out where "Tardif's" were living.
That's My Family
http://www.thatsmyfamily.info/
In the 1881 Census for Canada, there looks to be only 1 Edward Tardif that comes close in age to your Edward, but he is married to an Angele. They were living in New Brunswick.
St Leonard, Victoria, New Brunswick
Edward TARDIF
Married
French
Age: 23
Birthplace: New Brunswick
Occupation: Cultivatier
Religion: Catholique
Angele TARDIF

I couldn't find anything about his birth or marriage(s).

As I suspect he could have been born in Quebec, here are some links that may help.

Well, there is a contact listed on site, but there is no death listed for the first wife, a submission as an ancestral file:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
Has Edward marred to Angele Doucet ( father Firmin Doucet ?)
22 May 1880 / Parent, N.B.
Parents: Lambert Tardif & Julienne Thibodeau
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HMMMMMMMMMMMMM>...He has another submission as well, which may cancel this out as being your man...as he was in U.S. previous to this second marriage...
Spouse #2....Sophie Joanna Corbin
Marriage November 22 / 1897
St. Leonard - Parent, NB

I think you will have to pick up some more records in order to find out where he was born, so that we can locate the proper Edward... Have you checked all the censuses in which this couple appears? Some census takers may have written Province down... Is the name Mariana always used as well? Perhaps someone can find the info re: immigration to U.S in 1890 ?

Hi JJ, Thank you for all your wonderful information, and hard work. I found out the other day, that I've been "barking up the wrong family tree'! :o
My Tardiff:
Luc Tardif
b. 1875 Quebec, CAN.
m. Domathilde Gagnon
dec.? N.H.
Parents:
Eusebe Tardif
b. 1838 Quebec, CAN.
Caroline
b. 1843

"barking up the wrong family tree'!
I call it that as well...Oh, well, it happens...Only thing is we have even more trouble finding information in Quebec...
:-X
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BUt let's put the 1881 on here, just in case we can find something
Tardif family all born Quebec living in Ste-Jean-Chrysostome, Levis, Quebec
EUSEBE - b. c1838 Quebec occ. Switchman
CAROLINE - b. c1843 Quebec
USTACHE - age 20 Labourer
OCTAVE - age 18 Labourer
AURORE - age 13
PHEDENE - age 9
AZULIANA - age 8
LUC TARDIF - age 6 (b. c1875)
LAURE - age 4
CLARENCE - age 1
-
O.k...looking at the same census / Ste-Jean-Chrysostome, Levis, Quebec
a JOSEPH TARDIF b. c1846 35 occ. Farmer / all born Que.
MARGUERITE age 35
JOSEPH TARDIF 11
ARTHUR 8
EUSIBE 6 ( Not a common name so may be a connection)
PHILOMONT 4
ANNA 3
ONEZIME 2
NICHOLAS TARDIF Widower 89 ( b. c1792 ) Farmer ( Looking at age, could be the father/G.father to head )
down the way living in seperate households :
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
( households previous)
DELPHINE TARDIF 18 Stockholder
CAROLINE - 18 Stockholder
(households after )
LOUIS TARDIF 41 Farmer
CATHRINE 42
JEAN BTE TARDIF 77 Stockholder
MARGUERITE 71
PIERRE TARDIF 34 Farmer
ADILE 22
MARIE 3
JOSEPH 4mo
LOUISE DECOTEAU 19
PIERRE TARDIF 47
CEZARIE 42
JULES 16
MARIE 9
CELINA 7
PHILOMINE 5
GEORGIANA 2
Now we must see if there is a connection to your family and these
There are 48 by the surname Tardif living within this area, several of whom are listed above.
-
submissions aren't reliable, but there is a marriage listed on the IGI which certainly would be close to the first birth...in 1861
EusÃbe Tardif (Hilaire Tardif & Marie-Louise Hudon-Beaulieu )
to Caroline Dionne
Oct. 11 1859..but it doesn't say where this marriage took place... ::)
Some of the submitter's information is there, but not enough so that you can write to ask what the source of info was?

Marriage for Hilaire & Marie Louise but it takes place in town of Kamouraska
This might be a good person to ask about descendats of this couple and if they tie in to your family!
parents of both are listed here, so invaluable should it turn out to be yours...
P.S...just leave this information posted here, and only keep or print out the "for sures" when you find there is a connection somewhere...
-
Here is some more information listed on ascendants of the above couple (Eusèbe Tardif / Caroline Dionne) and a place for the marriage St-Pascal, QC...and an email address which might just help to see if this is the right family...! HOPEFULLY!

Fingers crossed... :D J.J.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maybe also point out to the person on the site that from http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/QUEBEC/2005-08/1124685570
marriage for Marie & Hilaire Aug 22, 1825 has parents listed as:
Marie - Joseph Hudon-Beaulieu and Marie Louise Roy-Desjardins
Hilaire - Alexandre Tardif and Marie Catherine Sirois-Duplessis
-
Thank you, JJ, I'll check into this, and let you know what I find. :)
-
Hi Janice, I wanted to let you know what I found! I sent this person an email >>
http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~dionne/genealogie/marco/persons/dir_10/file_135.html
only it was returned to me by "Mailer Daemon". :-\
I then emailed another resource, and was given the following information~
Parents of Luc Tardif-
Etienne& Genvieve Labbe
*Info from "Les Tardif d' Amerique du Nord" -2ed
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
O.K. We need to stop now before we go off into another family once again...
You need to find some solid proof of the name of the person you seek let alone the parents...We'll be here when you find something solid.
Is there death information on your man? a marriage cert ? Find something concrete.... :) J.J.
-
You're exactly right, and I'll begin working on gathering more solid proof this week.
-
Odd that I was notified but no new reply on here...
But while we are here... ;DMsDovie was there anything new to report on your quest information? J.J.
