Title: 1906 Canada Census
Post by: Uncle Reff on Tuesday 27 November 07 08:39 GMT (UK)
I wonder if some kind person could look up the details of someone in the 1906 Canada Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta.

I thought that I could access this on ancestry, but am only getting a padlock symbol (probably because I only have uk access  ;D ).

The person is Vernon McMartin of Manitoba, Winnipeg, born about 1894.

Thanking you in advance.

You can view 1906 (and 1901 & 1911) Canadian census yourself at www.automatedgenealogy.com but there isn't much information on it compared to the others.

I imagine you found Vernon & her parents Wm. J. and Maud on the 1906 and the 1911 census...she and her siblings born in U.S and immigrated 1904.
Did you need any more information regarding this family...? J.J.

collection Canada site not working lately...so can't tell for sure if he is the right one...but will post anyway

If this is the right family you are searching for there should be a lot of information on a prominant citizen.

Hi JJ,

Thank you for that very kind offer, there is a little thing...

I have found the following on the Internet from the find births deaths marriages in the Province of Manitoba at http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php
It appears that he died quite young:

I am now wondering if it may be possible to find any obituary for this chap.

Don't worry if this is not possible, but if it is then many thanks in advance!  :D

Wow, poor family, he died so young!
If this is your man, and I imagine it is, he'd have been a prominent citizen, and so hopefully more than a blurb in the paper...
I will add it to my list....Haven't been since beginning of January.
It has just been too darn COLD! BBRRRRRRRRRR

-26  °C   right now with wind chill - makes that almost twice as cold....
It is blustery!

JJ

Thank you very much, you are so kind!

There is a lot of information in this that i did not have, so it shows how important these obituaries can be. Your visit was very useful to me.

Regards Vic

No thank you, you have been a star!

I have now found out that the little company that William started is today a global concern called Westeel.

Thanks once again - Vic
