Does anyone have any information about a marriage between a female Strawson and a male Marshall ?
Mrs Marshall was buried in Grimsby in 1924 and I would like to find out who she was.
Thanks

Hi Grizzly,
Have you any idea how old Mrs. Marshall was when she died? A few dates would be helpful.

Hi Jill
I think the lady in question could be Jane Fox Strawson, born in Howden Yorks in 1812, married to Robert Marshall in June 1841 at Horncastle and in Horncastle, 20 East Street, a 78 year old widow living on her own resources, in the 1891 census.
Jane Fox Marshall died in Horncastle in March 1897, aged 84.
I can't find either Jane or Robert or trace of children in any other census.
If she is the lady in question then why is there a memorial to her in Grimsby with the date 1924 on it ?
I wish I had more information to go on but so far all I know is that the memorial is of a female Strawson married to a male Marshall, is in Grimsby and has the date 1924 on it. It's in bad repair.

On my BIVRI disks - I realise marriages are "wrong way round" but it shows links between the families.
10 July 1873 Grimsby
George Wride STRAWSON (full age, son of Geo Smith STRAWSON) to Sarah Amelia MARSHALL (full age, dau of Andrew)
24 May 1877 Grimsby
William Pearson STRAWSON (full age, son of Geo Smith STRAWSON) to Annie Elizabeth MARSHALL (full age, dau of Andrew)
The marriage that Grizzly found -
17 June 1841 Horncastle
Robert MARSHALL (son of Thomas) to Jane Fox STRAWSON (dau of William)

Thanks Geoff...I wish it was this way round. It would be easier if I were looking for a Mr Strawson rather than a Mrs Marshall.

Wonderful Jill...the 1851 onwards ones are the lady I'm looking for.
Now why couldn't I find them on the censuses ? Did you use the internet or have you hidden sources ? ;)
I still don't know if this is the same lady that is on the memorial but she is the only one that fits the Strawson/ Marshall link.
Thank you again

Hi Grizzly,
Yes, I used Ancestry. In several cases 'Howden' was mistranscribed though!
This looks like her as well:
IGI - Christenings at Howden, Yorks.
Jane Fox Strawson - 29 August 1812. Parents: William Strawson & Jane Tusting.
There are several deaths of George Marshall between 1841-51 both in Yorkshire & Lincolnshire, and of course none of them give ages so it's a bit difficult to pin him down!

I am currently researching my Marshall family history. Strawsons' were a big local farming family who actually own some of the land opposite my land and house.
I have managed to find a memorial stone in St Giles Church Scartho for William Marshall. This stone also lists other family members, amongst them it says "Daughter A. E. Strawson died 8th Dec 1924".
In my family tree it would appear that Ann Marshall 1841-1924 also married an A Strawson who was born around 1835.
I am still digging through a minefield of names, I hope this helps.
