Were your ancestors born, married or buried in Manchester Cathedral ? Here is a old print of how it looked when called the Collegiate Church of Manchester.
:) :)

My ancestors Joseph Adamson and Martha Carter from Ardwick married 14.8.1842 at Manchester Cathedral which was called Collis Parish Church on the marriage certificate. If anyone is interested in Ardwick 1851 the M/L FAMILY history society have a special cd of the destroyed bits of the census that they could salvage. HO107/2220. :-*

Hi Mobo ;)
Thanks for posting that gorgeous print of Manchester Cathedral. My Gt Gt Grandparents were married there in 1855, so very relevant.
What sort of age would you say that print dates from?
Cheers,
Kate

Dear Red1
It depends on the dates of the records you're looking for. If they were pre-1837, then you have to look at the Parish Records for Manchester Cathedral. Liverpool Record Office may hold copies of these - you could try them on
http://archive.liverpool.gov.uk/home.html
You could also try the IGI on the LDS site
http://www.familysearch.org
However, if they are after 1837, they can be found through various ways, and the best thing to do first of all, would be to post your names and dates on the Lancashire Look-Up Requests section here. I'm sure someone on Rootschat will come to your aid.

Thank you for the older photo of the Cathedral. I have postcard with modern view.

Does any one have connections back to these people my gt gt grandparents?

Smashing pictures both. Yes my Newalls, Newells, Newhalls and Newel who lived in the St Johns district of Manchester, in rather poor housing I understand "the courts". Had several mariages and baptisms there, but I havn't come across any burials. I have a marriage for a William Newell 14 Jun 1792, who I have yet to confirm as one of mine, but is likely. Plus Samuel Newell baptised there 1810 and married there 1832, all his children were baptised there as were most of his grandchildren.

I have a copy of the marriage certificate of my gt grandparents Hezekiah Eccles and Elizabeth Pickford which says 'Marriage Solemnized at the Cathedral and Parish Church in the Parish of Manchester County of Lancaster" on 8th October 1849.
-
I've found two marriages - one couple in 1836 the other in 1848. I've looked both up on the registers (red1 - Manchester Central Library has microfilm copies) & seen the vast numbers of marriages - often 15-20 in one day.
Many thanks Mobo for the picture.

Great photos, both of them. One day I hope to see them in the flesh - so to speak. Lots of my Mum's families, the BUTTERWORTHS and BOOTHS, celebrated significant events in this Cathedral. If she were still alive Mum would be getting me to print out both photos for her files. But I guess I'll have to print them out for mine instead.
Many thanks
Karenlee

I like the first print of Manchester Catheral, There are two pubs at the back of the church like the buildings in the first picture 1800 orginal buildings, If you ever get chance to come to Manchester it is worth a look at the orginal buildings.. Sinclairs Oyster Bar and the Wellington pub. These pubs had to be moved after the IRA blew up part of Manchester in 1974 ish, luckily they survived 2 blasts and have been rebuilt brick by brick, your ancestors could very well gone and had oysters in Sinclairs after attending church!

Hi red1
If you email the Cathedral office and give details of births, marriages, etc. - they will find them for you, email you back with cost etc. and ask you to forward your address - and they will be with you very quickly.

hi
Photos is certainly lovely. I also have family married there on my gg grandmothers side. She was a Moses and i know parts of her family married int he 1800...would have to look up again to find out when. Also i think the surnames are Lea and Barnett. Most of these families came from Cheshire mainly Haslington.
Thanks for the photo

Great Idea, posting the Pics & etc for Manchester Cathedral!
I have Ancestors Married & Christened There:
Carl HERTZBERGER (Bn Prussea C1817) Married Dorothea Brown (Bn Germany C1816) on 3rd July 1851.
Also Dorotheas Bro & Sister in Law: Peter BRAUN & Elizabeth STUDT Married there on 30th January 1849, and their Daughter Elizabeth was Christened there 30th December 1849!
Carl & Dorothea had 4 Children in Manchester, I hav'nt found their Christenings (Yet!), but I dare say they are in the Catherdral Records (somewhere).
