Title: Birth/Baptism - John PARRETT/PERRETT
Post by: Bunty3Black on Wednesday 21 November 07 19:45 GMT (UK)
I have hit a brick wall in my search for John Parrett/Perrett. DOB:C/1797; Bishops Fonthill;
I have the Marriage- 07 Aug 1820 in St. Martin Parish, Salisbury to Ann Masters.[FHL Film#1279368]  He is John Parrett in the marriage Reg. All refernce to him in Census records list Bishop Fonthill as Place of Birth. In 1841-51 Census he resided in Fontill Gifford. He is John  Perrett in Census records. There are several John Perretts at this time in Wilts. The couple had 2 sons; George[1823] and Richard [1826-8] unable to locate verification of Richard's Birth, but census record list PL. Of B. as Salisbury. John fathered an illigitimate son, John Perrett Snook[1850]. I have searched  Parish Records FHL Film #1270362. for Birth/Baptism of John Parrett/Perrett without success. I do not know names of Parents or siblings. Could someone suggest a solution, Please?

Hi,

In 1851 I've found John Perrett in Fonthill Gifford living with his housekeeper, Sarah Snook, and her children Mary, Emmaline and John Perrett Snook.   I don't know if you have the information but his wife Ann appears to be living next door with her sons George and Richard.

The only solution would seem to be to look at the parish records for Fonthill Bishop - I'll do that on my next visit to Chippenham.

Happy New Year, Dave

John Parrett gives his Place of birth as Bishops Fontill. I have the Parish Records for Bishops Fonthill and the Parrett [in all its variations of vowells] first appeared in this Parish c/ 1780's. Could any one  suggest any further plan or strategy of search, please? I have exhausted any ideas I could think of.  The marriage registry failed to provide any names of the couple's parents, which I had hoped it would.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
I can't help with your hunt for parentage of John Perrett but was surprised to see your request for information as I have just learnt of the connection between him and my family.  Sarah Snook who was his housekeeper and presumably mistress with probably 2 children (Emmaline also baptized the same day as John Perrett Snook).  Sarah's maiden name was Goodfellow and she was sister of one of my direct ancestors.  Her husband Henry Snook was possibly one who died Sep Qtr 1842 about the time their youngest child Alfred Snook was born.  Sarah and her children had moved to Melksham by 1861 and looks like John Perrett also lived there.
Regards, Carmel

Thank-you for responding. We were surprized by the "51 Census showing the Neighbours" -and another twig in the tree!
