Title: Burfoot or Burford
Post by: cb1964 on Tuesday 20 November 07 20:28 GMT (UK)
I am trying to track the descendent's of the following:

Joseph Burfoot: Bapt. Temple Parish, Bristol 13/10/1805
Eliza Burford: Bapt. St. James Parish, Bristol 4/12/1808
Hannah Burford: Bapt. St. Philip & Jacob, Bristol 18/2/1827 (aged 12 years)

The parents are listed as Thomas and Ann Burfoot or Burford.

I also believe they may have had another child, Thomas (my G. G. Grandfather), born circa 1811/12 although I can find no entry in the local parish registers.

If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hiya CB1864

There is nothing coming up in the census for them so it looks like they died before 1841. Guess you have tried this and also the IGI. There is nothing coming up for their deaths on the IGI either. Your best bet maybe to post on the lookup request board and see if anyone can find them at the local archive office if you havent tried this yourself.

Did your Thomas marry Elizabeth Lamb?

Hi Willow

I have tried to trace the descendants of Thomas (snr) without success. As I mentioned earlier, I cannot find concrete proof of a direct connection between the 2 Thomas's save for the fact their ages suggest they are father and son and that the census's show them living near to each other.

I have not come across  Elizabeth Lamb. Thomas (snr) was married to Ann who dies in 1839. He re-married Mary Richards in 1841. Thomas (jnr) married Elizabeth Randall in 1831.

Thanks again for looking.

Hiya CH1864

I only asked because on the IGI there is a marriage for a Thomas Burfoot to an Elizabeth Lamb on 17.4.1804 at St Michaels Bristol

Also very strangely there is a death of an Elizabeth Lamb Burfoot in 1838 in Bristol on FreeBMD

Found Thomas and Elizabeth also known as Betsy on the 41 - 61 census and he was b 1812 St Phillips

If you want the details let me know

Hi Willow

Thanks again for looking. Thomas & Elizabeth (Betsy) Burfoot are my Gt. Gt. Grandparents and I already have their census details. In 1851 they are living on Great George Street. The following page of the census shows the continuation of Thomas & Betsy's children. The same page also shows Thomas & Mary BURFETT living in Wade Street. This is the Thomas who I believe is the father of Thomas above.

Thank you for providing the details of Thomas Burfoot and Elizabeth Lamb. I have just managed to find the death entry for Elizabeth Lamb Burfoot in the 1st qtr of 1838. Ironically, there is also an adjacent entry for a Charles Lamb Burfoot.

I have tried to use the IGI in the past without much success. I have tried to locate the marriage you refer to in 1804 but cannot find any trace.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello CB1964
I am a descendant of Hannah BURFOOT (b. 1815) who married (i) Michael DUNBAR and then (ii) Richard PONSFORD in 1847. I see you have managed to trace back the BURFOOT line to Randwick. I would be interested in finding out more about this line.
