The proposed date is the second Monday in November (The one after Remembrance Sunday)
10 Downing Street have an e-petition running to 18th April 2008 which can be signed on-line at:
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/remembermonday/
The main for"s" are :
Britain has fewer public holidays then other EC Countries
Britain has no public holidays for the 3 months tween August and Christmas
Britain does not have a national day.
The holiday will serve to emphasise commemoration of The Fallen who gave their lives......
You have to be a British citizen, or resident to sign

Thank you Wendi,
for your message, I was not aware of this petition,
and what an excellent Idea it is, if the powers that be do not like the idea of giving another bank holiday, how about changing the May Day Holiday to November, I am sure only the most fervent political activists, would object ?,, and they certainly would be in the very, very small minority.
We should never forget the sacrifices that were made.

Sorry, Frank - my views are quite moderately liberal, but I would object to May Day being scrapped.
I'm happy for an additional holiday to commemorate WW1. But the petition goes much further than that.
