Title: Pontypridd
Post by: NEATWHEAT on Friday 16 November 07 07:35 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find the family of Elizabeth Ann Yaw.  She was born in 1884, the records say Pontypridd.  She married in Somerset in 1907 and in the 1901 census she was a servant in Wiveliscombe.
The birth, marriage and 1901 census are the only records I can find of her.

Can anyone help.

Thanks

Do you have her birth certificate with her parents names ?
It may help with the searching of the 1891 census.

The family could be recorded as something different - YEO, for instance.

How strange ??? there are 'Yaw' registrations under Pontypridd reg on freebmd, phonetic search comes up with soundalike 'Yeo', as SS mentioned.

Have looked at local BMD records I have... no Yaw listed on them but they are all not concise.

No 1891 census info for 'Yaw' in area either, possibly mistranscribed or missed off maybe. Do you have birth or marriage cert to post any further info? birth address, parents / fathers name, occ. etc?  to help try narrow if they are mistranscribed?

Hoping to help

Cas

Thanks for your help.  I am doing this for a friend and she does not have the Birth Certificate yet but after some searching and detective work I have found the family in the 1891 census in Williton Somerset and it looks as though someone has read the family name incorrectly as they are entered as Gaw, on looking at the sheet I can see it is Yaw.

The mystery is that the family is in Somerset in 1881, 1891 and 1901 but Elizabeth Ann Yaw was born in Pontypridd 1884 and one of her other brothers James was born there in 1886.  The rest of the siblings were born in Somerset.

Perhaps this will never be solved.

Hi Neatwheat
Suggest you get birth certificate for children born Pontypridd may give address and who registered birth. The address may give you some insite to who they where staying with , if you look that address up on the census long shot but I have found  relatives that way that I did not know i had.
cheers cardiff ;)

I, too, have ancestors who moved from Somerset to Pontypridd.
Before Somerset, they were in Ireland. I'm guessing that they were travelling to wherever work & money could be found.

I'm new to Rootschat and this is an old thread.  I have further details of Elizabeth Ann Yaw, James Yaw and their siblings if still of interest.
