My paternal grandmother's parents - Charles Peters c 1859 Plymouth and Bertha Crabb 1859 Chard, Ilminster, Somerset - were married in 1885 in Bideford and later moved to Exeter. I cannot find any record of their parents or exact dob and marriage. Any info would be very gratefully received.

Hi there
There are 2 Charles Peters born 1858-1859 Plymouth on the 1871 census:
1871 Census - Plymouth Burough, St. Andrew, Devon
Union Place
Charles Peters, age 12 born Plymouth
Father: John Peters, age 52, Blacksmith, born Plymouth, Devon,
Mother: Elizabeth Peters, age 49, born Plymouth
John H. Peters, age 20, Printer, born Plymouth
Elizabeth A. Peters, age 17, Book folder, born Plymouth
Emma Peters, age 14, General Servant, born Plymouth
1871 Census, St. Mary's Church, Devon
Charles W. Peters, age 13, born St. Andrews, Plymouth
Father: John W. Peters age 35, Baker, born Kingswear
Mother: Mary A. Peters, age 36, born St Mary's Church
Thomas H., age 12, St. Mary's Church
Florence, age 3, St. Mary's Church
According the the FreeBMD:
Elizabeth Bertha Crabb birth registered Jan-Mar 1857 in the Chard District
Charles Edward Peters registered Plymouth, Devon, Jan to March 1859;
and a Charles William Peters registered in Plymouth, Jul-Sep 1858
I checked the FreeBMD for Elizabeth Crabb and Charles Peters and found:
Charles Edward Peters and Elizabeth Crabb
marriage registered Apr-Jun 1885 Bideford
volume 5b, page 920
So, you can forget about the Charles William listed above.
You can order the birth and marriage certs here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/
Good luck in your research :)

Thanks for that info - it looks hopeful! I think I'll need to purchase the marriage certificate to find out the parents.

After a considerable length of time I have resumed tracing this branch of my family tree. I obtained the birth certificate for my great grandmother Elizabeth Bertha Crabb 10/3/1857 Ashill distict of Ilminster, Somerset and her parents are Henry Crabb (labourer) and Ann Keetch (sometimes spelt Kitch). I have checked census details and FreeBMD and I think Ann was born in 1826 and died in 1861 which would explain why Elizabeth Bertha is listed with her uncles Solomon and George Kitch in the 1861 and 1871 censuses respectively. Ann and Henry married in 1848 (Chard district) and a Henry Crabb died in 187 but I can't be sure it is him. I am trying to find out if Henry and Ann had other children between 1848 and 1857. Any help would be very welcome.
