Trying to connect my WAHLERS family in UK....mostly from Liverpool area....with NZ,
but need to go back a number of generations.
I have Charles Ernest WAHLERS, born about 1872, england who married Lily Rod or Rodd, born about 1870, the marriage possibly in NZ......children possibly all born in NZ
Herbert Ernest WAHLERS, Born NZ 1898...married Ethel May ? 1921, died?, cremation at Purewa Cemetery. Military 1914-18.
Dorothy....no details
Eric...no details
Harold...may be Harold Gordon....no details....
Any help with these (or any other WAHLERS in NZ) would be appreciated..particularly with info re parents or place of birth of Charles Ernest WAHLERS

Only other NZ marriages for WAHLERS:
(*) Ethel Joan to William Easter MILLAR
(*) Florence Dorothy May to Rupert King JACOMB
1921 Herbert Ernest to Ethel May TASKER
(*) Herbert John to Myra Joyce POWELL
Looks like they might have lived in Wellington as there is reference to a Charles Ernest & a Lily on the 1919 Electoral Roll for Wellington Suburbs and the Supp for Wellington East.

Thanks for this....yes did see this first time round.....had to log off as suddenly found it was early hours of morning here in uk.
Not much info re Cemetery Site......looks like if I get the marriage certificate for Charles Ernest/Lily Rod the details will include date and place of birth for each....am I correct?......hopefully this will give me a link back to uk..............presumably this can be ordered via internet from somewhere....

It depends on which country you are in and who has purchased copies of the fiche.

Sorry....it wasn't clear on my original enquiry....I am in Uk Nottinghamshire....
Looked on the resources pages for nz.....and tried google to see if bmd fiches available anywhere in uk......nothing yet other than to fax nz dept of int affairs with range of likely dates and ask for a search for births....is this the best option please?

BIRTH details please for the following known children:
Florence Dorothy May WAHLERS, range likely say 1895 - 1905
Herbert Ernest WAHLERS, 15.1.1898,
Eric WAHLERS, range say 1895 - 1905
Harold WAHLERS, range say 1895 - 1905
These are the known offspring....any other WAHLERS births around this time would also be connected I suspect.
The parents were:
Charles Ernest WAHLERS and Lily ROD.
1896 Marriage. folio 0531.
(I have sent off for a copy of the marriage certificate, thank you).
This is all the information I have I am afraid.

Many links here that I have followed, particularly the "paperspast" website, which I would recommend to all. I note that this covers the years 1840 - 1915. Is there anything similar from 1915 or are there any plans for such?
The info has allowed me to unite two separate links of the WAHLERS family....as before this I had information on two separate lines in Australia and New Zealand. I can now link Louis John and Charles Ernest as brothers!
Still would welcome info re birth dates as previously to get me link back to England though.......

Many links here that I have followed, particularly the "paperspast" website, which I would recommend to all. I note that this covers the years 1840 - 1915. Is there anything similar from 1915 or are there any plans for such?
Papers Past is brilliant, isn't it. There is nothing else online after 1915 as far as I know and I'm not sure if the National Library plans to add later dates in the future.

Probate for Charles Ernest WAHLERS, of Wellington.
Died 16 Sep 1920.
The official papers after death describe him as a “Stevedore”, whereas in the will he describes himself as a “Harbour Official”.
Everything to his wife Lily absolutely.
He wanted to be cremated.
Life Assurance = ₤175 . 0 . 0
Furniture = ₤71 . 16 . 6

Thanks again.....perhaps the will was written some years before he died...hence the change of description.....
In your very first message you said the only marriages for WAHLERS were the four as you listed...is that to present date please?.......I have some names of present/recent WAHLERS for NZ.
I understand that HAROLD GORDON WAHLERS (born NZ 1902) served in WW2 but moved to England after the War. I believe he died 1992 in England. Any ideas for where this voyage to UK may be listed?

The marriages were up to 1956.
Sorry, can't help with NZ - UK voyages.
Don't think there would be any reocrds kept as there wouldn't have been any government involvement as with the assissted immigrants.

Noted re dates for marriages....presumably records that are searchable only go up to 1956 in NZ. I think in UK we can get up to 1993 from BMD Records, it may even be more recent.
I will follow up on death certificates for NZ in due course, but am now awaiting the delivery of the marriage certificate for Charles Ernest WAHLERS from NZ to try to link back to Lancashire for his birth.

The CD covers the dates I mentioned.
ALL NZ Births, Marriages & Deaths are available on fiche up to 1990, although I believe that somewhere in Auckland they have them up to 1997.

A follow-up to your comment re ship voyage records....you mentioned assisted places....do you know if there are any records listing those who took up assisted places say from england to NZ?

Plenty!!, but you need to know a year and ship as they are not indexed by passenger name.

As a follow up I can now report receipt of marriage certificate for CHARLES ERNEST WAHLERS which now proves link back to Lancashire area of England. I must follow up in the UK or Germany for further search for ancestors before 1840.
There is still more to learn about the NZ/Australia connection of the WAHLERS family, but I appreciate all your help. If I can assist you in return in any way from the UK I will be happy to. Also if you bump into the WAHLERS name at any time......
Having spent two fabulous holidays in NZ in recent years my wife and I have appreciated the warmth and welcome of the people of NZ. I am sure we will be back soon and we envy you in your fantastic country.
