Hi Everyone
If anyone has access to the parish records for Welbury, Nth Yorkshire I am looking for the birth/Bapt of Thomas Wrightson. He married in Welbury May 1758 so I assume his birth was pre 1737
would appreciate anything

Hi Kim,
I looked at a transcript of St Leonard's, Welbury church records at the Records Office yesterday but could find no baptism for Thomas Wrightson, or any other Wrightsons. Searched from 1700 - 1755.
Re: the marriage for Thomas Wrightson:- Banns were read at Welbury on 23rd & 30th April and 6th May 1758, TW of this parish, Sarah Postgate of Stockton. There is no marriage in the Welbury register as far as I could see, just the Banns. On the Joiner Marriage Index there is 1 record of a marriage for Thomas Wrightson and Sarah Postgate in Co Durham in 1758 so I guess they married at Stockton?

Hi Tilly
Thanks for this, I have the marriage recorded as 25/5/1758 Welbury, however, my P.C. crashed recently & a lot of info was lost so I don't know where this came from. It did say he was of the parish of Welbury so I was hoping this was his birthplace. He was a Schoolmaster so could have just been posted there.
Thanks again

Hello,
Just picked up this thread through a Google alert, so apologies that I couldn't offer any help earlier.
Having just checked the Joiner Marriage Index for our marriage records in County Durham I can confirm that Thomas Wrightson of Welbury did marry Sarah Postgate in Stockton on Tees on the 25th May 1758. That unfortunately is the extent of the data we have, so possibly Welbury is just the place of residence at the time for Thomas.
Good luck with your research, please feel free to get in touch if I can help with any lookups.
Best regards,
Toby
