I am searching for information on Thomas Pearce
According to Census records was born about 1816 in Camberwell, Surrey another census states Kent Road, Surrey
He married Sarah Jater (widow) nee Sparkes
1843 Bloomsbury, Middlesex
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Erica,
Do you have a copy of his marriage certificate? This would give you his father's name & perhaps help to narrow down the search as Pearce is a fairly common name :(

Welcome to rootschat Erica.........you haven't been known to run onto a rugby field at Twickenham have you :o
I gather this is the family.........but you require pre 1841 census info?
1861
20 ADAMS ROW, PANCRAS, MARYLEBONE, MIDDX
THOMAS PEARCE head 45 fishmonger KENT ROAD, SURREY
SARAH " wife 46 SUFFOLK
ALFRED " son 15 PANCRAS
FREDERICK " son 6 PANCRAS
ARTHUR " son 4 PANCRAS
ALICE " daur 2 PANCRAS
AMELIA JATER daur in law 18 PANCRAS
----------------
* Camberwell is on the south side of the old kent road and Bermondsey on the north side, so one assumes he was born in the old kent road or on the Peckham side of it?
If Thomas was born in 1816 the likelyhood is his age would show as 20 in the 1841 as per the 1841 rule ie 20-24=20, 25-29=25 etc and the only one I can see in 1841 with a fish connection is aged 20 living with his mother & siblings at Wapping, Hammersmith, Middx...Thomas being a fisherman and he and his mother being the only ones not born Middx
something fishy going on here..........
1841
HENRY STREET, MARYLEBONE, ST PANCRAS, MIDDX
RICHARD JATER 25 fishmonger Y (born Middx)
SARAH " 25 Y
SARAH " 4 Y
ELIZABETH " 1 Y
----------------
March qtr 1843....St Pancras
RICHARD JATER died
-----------
Dec qtr 1843....Bloomsbury
SARAH JATER marries THOMAS PEARCE...............who are the witnesses?
-----------
someone call a cop we have an unsolved murder on our hands.....someone fed someone with a dodgy bit of fish....just joking, well I think I am
Marriage cert required £7-00 or have you got it? if so what is Thomas's father's name and occupation
Death cert for Mr Jater would be nice............ :o

The Sparkes are still in Ringshall, Suffolk in 1841 (8 in total)....... John Sparks 55 in 1841 is he Sarah's father?
Can you reveal all details from marriage cert ie father's, father's occupations, witnesses, where living at the time of marriage, was Thomas a bachelor

Hi there, thanks for your responses,
I don't have the marriage information yet and haven't been able to get a parish lookup for Ringshall yet. The only IGI's I could find for Sarah Sparkes close to Ringshall were a bit interesting.

I guess I will have to wait for the marriage record to see if she is this Sarah Sparkes, or a possible child of John Sparkes, in Ringshall in 1841, or maybe even another lol.
Is it possible that the family above were Baptists and converted? ???
There were several Spark(es) listed under Wattisham Baptist, including John Sparkes (b1782), which after further research, I believe to be the John Sparkes listed in Ringshall in 1841 and a brother to the William Sparkes listed above (1787)
Several of John Sparks' children are listed in Wattisham Baptist then several baptised together in Ringshall on May 23 1823 (per the Cosford Database web site for RINGSHALL Suffolk)
I am in the US, with no FHL nearby, so I am relying on waiting for snail mail records and requesting lookups.
I guess I just need to wait for the marriage information lol.
Thanks, Erica

I finally received the Marriage entry for the above Thomas Pearce and Sarah Sparkes. No ages are listed. Thomas' father was a Thomas Pearce, market gardener. I have scoured through the 1841 census and can not find either. He states he is a butcher living at Hampstead Road. From 1851 on he is a fishmonger.
Sarah Sparkes lists her father as John Sparks, laborer. I don't know if this is the one in Ringshall in 1841. That John had a number of his children baptised at Wattisham baptist, but no Sarah.
Any suggestions?

I looked at this site http://www.parishregister.com/searchpage.asp at St Mary Magdelene Bermondsey. Unfortunately they have not finished transcribing the years you want but there are a lot of Pearce children baptised later(1822-29). It would be worthwhile to keep checking this site.
