The only census I can see them together on at the moment is 1871 - Michael is a policeman who was born 1830 in Queens County Ireland - it gives Emmas place of birth as Kings Norton
so this could be her in 1851
from 1851 Birmingham St Martin

Thanks for that - I am really looking for her parents and also her children I know she had William and John but I believe there was more and they lived most of their lives in and around Birmingham, Michael is listed on Johns Birth Cert as a Policeman and they lived at the back of 68 Gt Lister Street Aston that was in 1866 (when John was born he was my Gt Grandfather) Being in New Zealand its a bit of a mission to get info. I am also looking for an Annie Mysercough Hodson (Mysercough was her maiden name and she added it to her married name) she was Johns Mother in Law, she married John Johan Hodson who was a Railway Agent living in Chapel St Denbeigh in 1866.

Hi Bonnie
I will see what I can find - will concentrate on the Kelly Baynham family first, though I can't help with Michael born in Ireland, you would have to ask on the Irish board for that
here is what I believe is Emmas family in 1841, judging from the birth places of the children in 1851 they must have moved to Birmingham just before this census
from 1841 Birmingham St Martins
HO107-1142 Book4
Wm Baynham 36 Blacksmith
Frans Baynham 35
Sophia Baynham 12
Emma Baynham 7
Fredk Baynham 5
Elizh Baynham 3
also possibly Elinor Whale aged 1 - none born in Warwickshire

Hmm - I think this must be them in 1881 but for some reason Michael is calling himself Richard - he is no longer a policeman - they don't seem to have any more children and we have lost Thomas - though he may just be away from home

:)
You are a little gem thanks, so much on Johns Marriage Cert Michael is shown as a Warehouseman in Brassfoundry and they are living at back of 70 Gt Lister St Duddeston - perhaps the census people had a bad day!! I do appreciate what you have done thanks so much - will investiagte what happened to Thomas some how. It is so expensive to get into the Records from here everytime we want something its a Visa payment and you add 10 quid for every transaction, as I am now a pensioner it gets a bit expensive. I would send you a photo of them if I knew how :-\ thats what comes of being a newbie. That is great about Emmas parents and I have asked in Irish section about where Queens County is always told that he was born in County Cork (another myth busted)

You are very welcome :) - I have checked that 1871 for Michaels birth place, I looked at the original and it does say Queens County, so it is not a transcription error.
I have to say I am struggling with the other side the Hodson/Mysercough side, I can't find John & Annies marriage in the index - do you have any other information on this family which might help pin them down?
Debbie
-
Okay here is all I have which is next to nothing - on Johns Marriage Cert to Mary Josephine Hodson her father is listed at John Jonah Hodson of247 Nechells Park Rd, Nechells (Birmingham) he is listed as a Coal Merchant this is 1891. Mary Josephines Birth Cert dated April 1866 lists Annie Myerscough Hodson, formerly Mysercough as mother and John Johan Hodson as Railway Agent address in Chapel Street Denbeigh which is in the District of Luthin in the County of Denbeigh, Entry no 241 Register Book of Births No 12. On Marriage cert of John and Mary the witness are William Kelly and Elizabeth Anne Hodson it took place in Aston in the county of Birmingham at St Josephs RC Church in looks like Long Acre (but I always knew it as Nechells)
I do appreciate your help its getting quite exciting, I am going to join the genealogy group here in Thames when they start up again next year (its summer hols here at present)

Oh are you having fun ;D thank you so much yes it is a cute name - I dont have kids but I breed Birman cats think I might call one of my next litter Myerscough that should be fun explaining that. Still working on the Queens County link, its close to the Cork border and I suspect if the timing is right then it was the time of the "mass migration" from Ireland not the romantic "scandal and skipping the country" thing. Well its well past Midnight here in NZ so had better go to bed or I will be up for another all nighter and I will be in deep trouble. Thanks so very much for everything you have done, perhaps one day I will be able to help you when I get good at this.

Frederick BAINHAM from Lyonshall married Elizabeth BURGWYNNE in Eardisley on 5th August 1802.
Lyonshall is about 2 miles from Kington in Herefordshire where there is an area called Baynham's Yard.
This was a local family like the Burgwynnes and there are still some about these days.
Look on the Herefordshire Forum on Rootschat to see other Baynham researchers.

Hello
I realise this topic is old but I believe my family is related to your Hodsons and have a bit of further information.
Does your John Jonah Hodson born Lytham Lancs marry Ann Myerscough in Preston, Lancs in 1865?
If so, do you have his marriage certificate? Is his father Robert?
Thanks
Olie
-
Hi Ollie
Yes that is my JJ Hodson - his father was William and his mother was Elizabeth Neville - his brother was Robert - does this help.
I dont have their marriage cert but from other B/M/D certs that I have I have worked it out. Too expensive to get the cert from UK to NZ

Hi Dyan
Oh, maybe not then, although its stange to have 2 Jonah Hodsons from Lytham in Lancs. When was yours born?
The Jonah in my tree was born around 1839/40 in Lytham, parents were Robert Hodson and Ann nee Whittle. The family were originally from Preston, Lancs before moving to Lytham.
In the 1841 & 1851 census Jonah was living with his parents and siblings which included a Francis, Anthony, James, Jane, Henry & Thomas.
Do you know where your Jonah was in 1841 & 51?
I was hoping they were the same but perhaps not

I think we have been round this before I let you into my Ancestry site.
JJ was born on 21 March 1844
JJ married Annie Mysescough in 1865.
1866 listed as Coal Merchant/Railway Agent, from then on he was working on the railways (from his Records on the Railway) 1871 he was Station Master at Mold where my Gt Grdma (Mary Jospehine) was born he transferred to Curzon St Aston Birmingham in 1875, 1881 and 1891 he was listed as Railway Clerk and Coal Merchant 1901 and 1911 worked in a furniture removal company.
The male members of the family plus one female all followed in his footsteps and worked on the Railways
In 1841 he was in Moose Lane ??? Chorley 1851 Allen St Chorley siblings were Margaret, William x 2 (one died after a few days), Edward, Leonard, Miles Mary Richard and Sara Elizabeth.

Hi Dyan
Ahh not the same then, probably linked further up the tree. It was just that I googled some names of Hodson's (siblings of my direct ancestors) and came across the threat. Then I saw the Kelly name mentioned and thought this line of enquiry could sort out a brick wall I have come across in my tree where my grt grt grandmother Sarah Hodson nee Christian is buried at RC cemetary in Ford, Liverpool along with some unknown Kelly's.
Thanks
Olie
