Title: Sydney / Elsie Foulkes in Halliwell, Bolton
Post by: macca007 on Saturday 10 November 07 20:35 GMT (UK)
Does anyone remember Sydney and Elsie Foulkes who lived in Bolton, both now deceased.
Lived on stewart street, halliwell area around 1960.
Need to find someone who may possibly have a photo of the above mentioned, who would be kind enough to let me have a copy.
Many thanks.

Ps, They married in Horwich in around 1950

Dont know them personally macca but the wedding took place in Sept quarter 1950 ref 10c 1219. Sydney Foulkes and Elsie Hornby.
If you get the marriage cert it will give you the exact date; and then there may be a  photograph in eg the Bolton evening news a little later.
Bolton library may have archive copies...but obviously need to home in on date a bit....
Hope that helps
Jed

Yes, done that also, and even had a message in ' old pals ' section, but still no luck.  Think its time to give it up as a bad job.
Tried for ages, but got nowhere.
Just cant think of what to try next. :(

Have you tried the Bolton Historical Society.   I'm not sure of the address but I'm sure the Library would have one.

Good luck

I presume you are related to them so should know any other family members in the area?  If there is a chance of relatives then try a mailshot to all the FOULKES in the Bolton area, there do not seem to be all that many from a quick search of the Post-1984 BMD.  It is worth trying for the cost of a stamp (a s.a.e. doubles the cost but nowadays but you can probably take a chance on people having access to EMail).

There is a book "36 Stewart Street, Bolton: An Exercise in Nostalgia 1901-1914" (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0907511279/g8eprpyemuseu-21) but obviously not the right period.

You said you have tried the Bolton Evening News Old Pals column - it does work, I made a useful contact through there.  You could try a wider area through local radio, Ed Stewart used to do a similar thing on his Sunday programme on Radio 2 but don't know if anyone is doing that on national radio now.  As soon as you get hundreds of thousands or millions hearing or reading an appeal then you up the odds of finding someone.  I managed to get a picture of my Grandmother and last known contact was in the early 1920s, someone saw a letter of mine in a newspaper.

Have you tried the Bolton list on ROOTSWEB?
