My great great grandad was Philip Daniel Frusher, born in Whitechapel in 1876. He went on to marry Beatrice Hutchinson and had 9 children. THe last was William born in 1912 in Pancras.
Thats when the trail stops. He disappeared. We know he went away and left his wife and children. Rumour has it that it was to do with a scandal but its all rumours. I have heard that he went to Australia and also heard that he ran off with a waitress from Kings Cross. I have no idea whether they are true.
I would love to know what happened to him. I have tried searching for a death here and in Australia and not managed to find anything.
I am about to order William's birth certificate to see if it gives me any further clues.
Has anyone else got any ideas of where I can go next?

Don't see him on findmypast (searched for Frusher up till 1939) but perhaps he went to Scotland or Ireland or used another name?
-
Thanks - will keep looking!

Could he have served and died in WW1? You can search www.cwgc.org.; the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/ - there's a mention here of Philip Daniel Frusher, executor of the estate of Daniel Frusher (died 1911 - his father?) If you search for Frusher Philip Daniel in any order a few more hits come up - they appear to be bankruptcy records for a Philip Daniel Frusher in Cambridgeshire in 1930 - could be his son, though.
-
THank you. I think the bankruptcy is definately the son as my family were still around that area in 1930 and so it wouldn't make sense if he was still around. But, the executor of DanielFrusher (yes it is his father) may be the write one. I will look into getting information about the will which might give me a bit more of a clue.
I use the gazette at work but had not really thought of using it for this!

Hi
I know this is many years later after your original post but I wondered if you had had any luck tracing Philip Frusher. He is also my great grandad (my grandfather was Ernest Frusher). The story I was told was that he walked Philip to a bus stop when he was about 11; his dad boarded a bus and was not heard from again. The family myth is that he went to Australia but I have not had any luck finding any records - I would really appreciate any help with this.
Best regards
Dawn Street (nee Frusher)

Hi Dawn and welcome to Rootschat!
Hopefully welovemarmite receives emails when new posts are made to this thread; otherwise once you have made three posts you will be able to PM them.
Since that post the 1911 has come out: http://www.1911census.co.uk/ this shows Philip Daniel going by the name of Daniel, still with his family. As there hasn't seemed to be much luck finding him later under "Frusher", it would be a good idea to look at other names he might be under - e.g. he might have used his mother's maiden name.
Also have you traced his siblings?
It does appear that a possible sister of his, Leah Vassar Frusher, did go to Australia:
This shows her immigration:
http://www.archives.qld.gov.au/downloads/Indexes/immigration/Forrestor-Fytton.pdf
familysearch has her marrying William Young Free and some children for them.
(the Daniel immigrating at about the same time is Daniel Perkins Frusher as shown by his marriage in Queensland and a different line, so ignore him).
http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/22510697?searchTerm=%22Leah+Vassar%22
- Leah's death.
http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/12143157?searchTerm=%22Leah+Vassar%22
- her husband's death
It might be worth trying to determine where exactly Leah and her husband were living around 1911/1912

I am back!!! Not got much further. I got all the birth certificates I could get hold of. Also discovered that my grandfather (his son) was not living with his father at the time of the census in 1911. However, the problem with this is that we were led to beleive this didnt happen until after the great grandfather had disappeared. So this adds extra mystery. I think we should try and locate all of our grandads brothers and sisters desendants and write to them, see if they know any more rumour that we could piece together.
Dawn, I no longer have your email address following a disastrous computer update by my husband!!!

Once Dawn has 3 posts she can use PM to exchange email addresses since they are not allowed to be placed on the threads.
Remember that any census just shows the details of people in the household on one particular night so it may just be that your grandfather was staying away from his normal abode that night.
My grandmother is listed in one census twice (once with parents where she normally lived and again with grandparents where she was staying for a few weeks), her cousin (with wife and child) is listed three times in another census and in the 1991 census my parents will be show in my house (even though they live in another country) because they were over visiting at that time.
