My Hamiltons, Matthew Hamilton, wife Elizabeth Page found in Kirkintillough in 1861, they had one son Archibald Hamilton aged 11.
Matthew's brother George Hamilton & family also lived in Kirkintillough and remained there.
The son Archibald ended up in Australia not far from where I actually live, he married and had 4 children.
But, what happened to his parents, I cannot find them in the 1871 census in Kirkintillough or deaths on Scotlandspeople.
Would there be any lists of people immigrating that would be of help. Annie

Hi Annie,
I'm not sure if you've looked at this death, but there's a 1903 d. for Elizabeth Hamilton (other surnames: Page) in Kirkintilloch, aged 66? Not sure about the age, however, given Archibald would be born c. 1850! :-\

Ah! I see the census was 1871 and not 1861. So may still be possible.

Very strange. Archibald's birth entry (and all of his siblings') give Matthew's name as George! :-\ As does an 1855 marriage (lucky you!) to Elizabeth Page. The family are living in 76 Townhead Street, Kirkintilloch in 1881.

Sorry about the confusion, I have George Hamilton and family, it is his brother Matthew I was trying to follow.
Both Hamiltons were born in Stevenston, Ayrshire, and I spent quite awhile trying to find Matthew, didn't think to look in the same place as George, but finally there he was.
Then Matthew, wife Elizabeth and son, Archibald, disappeared after 1861.
Fed up one day I just put in Archibald Hamilton + Scotland and found him in Australia, but I still didn't find his Parents.
Thank you, Annie

Hello Annie
Elisabeth Page and George Hamilton were my great, great grandparents. Are you still searching for information?

Hi, haven't been looking for awhile, but keen for anything re Archibald Hamilton and gryzel mckechan. My line was their first son John who married Jane McGill. If there is anything you want to know I am happy to pass on what I have.
Followed George as I was also looking for Matthew,, his son came to Australia, but I don't know where Matthew went.

The confusion between George and Matthew is that both brothers married an Elizabeth- George to Elizabeth Page and Matthew to Elizabeth Smith. Matthew and his family did indeed migrate to Australia, maybe his brother George's son Archibald followed his uncle. I hope this helps clear up the confusion and gives you more info, Kim

You are right, it was confusing, but I did have both Elizabeth's, when I found Archibald (parents-Matthew Hamilton and Elizabeth smith) in Australia marrying a margaret Henderson and only half an hours drive from where I now live in nsw, I never thought to look in other states of Australia for his parents, and had assumed they must have stayed in Scotland. Just goes to show how much people move around.
Thank you, for that info, plus with hume's contact, and the inspiration to get back to the family tree, just what I needed, Annie

Thank you Kim :)
