Hi Clair,
it's in London at the junction of Watling St & Bow Lane.
Here's a site for it:

Thanks for that info. Its great to actually see some of the churches that feature in your family history. You can imagine them in it etc.

Hi,
I think that is one of the best parts of finding your ancestors then, as you say, you can imagine them and their daily lives.
Here another street map of the immediate area. The church of St Mary is just behind St. Paul's Cathedral in the City of London. You can navigate N,S, E & W around the area and get a feel for it.

At the date of your enquiry the parish church of St Mary, Aldermanbury was still in use.
However, having been rebuilt following the Great Fire of London in 1666 it was again destroyed by fire in the blitz of WWII
You can find more at
http://london.lovesguide.com/mary_aldermanbury.htm
The remaining debris of the church was shipped to the USA where it has been rebuilt. I worked in the City of London in the late 1960s and knew this rang bells ;D ;D ;D
The following web site shows the area today - it's the focal point of new development.

.......the parish church of St Mary, Aldermanbury ........
St Mary, Aldermanbury is a different church.
The IGI gives the marriage of Benjamin Fairbank in 1812 at
St. Mary Aldermary ref: 0374484.
St Mary Aldermary is still standing, It escaped major damage in WWII. ;D

I used to walk past it every day when I worked in foreign exchange banking in the City (in another life :o
Just thought Aldermanbury should also be considered for the search on Aldermondsy.
But I see you have found that the IGI reference if for Aldermary - sorry for the confusion, time to go and lie down in a darkened room methinks ::)

The two churches were within 1/2 a mile of each other, both near St. Paul.
A wonderful area, chock full of history, I used to roam around there as a kid.
Have a nice lay down suffolk ;D

So much energy went into investigating the wrong church!
FamilySearch says Benjamin Fairbank and Elizabeth Crapping were married at 'Saint Mary Aldermary, London'. At least we got the correct answer in the end. And it's still there, despite the Blitzkrieg.
