Hi
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to look up newspaper obituarys from either 1916 or 1936, and if so, where these type of records are held? Would they be in newspaper archives at libraries in the area local to the death??
Any info much appreciated! :)

If you know where the death occurred you could try the local library or record office.
Alternatively, if you are near London you could go to the Newspaper Library at Colindale:

Good luck.

Before we can advise you which reference library to go to, we need to know the place/area he lived. As you don't have a location for yourself,we cant send you anywhere if you live Canada ;D ;D seriously ;D
In the county that the person died you will find orbits, but only if put in the paper by relatives. These newpapers are usually on film in the referenc room at the main library. And can be viewed on the film reader, use of machine for 2 hours is 50P so you can have a good read.If a person was well known in the community there will be an article inside the paper.

Hi both!
Thanks for the info, much appreciated!
I do know the counties/registration area, year and qtr for each of the deaths I'm looking into, but don't have an exact date as yet. I will be ordering death certs this week.
I'm in Wales but the deaths are in Rochdale, Lancashire and in Croydon, Surrey so neither are local to me unfortunately.
