Hello,
There seems to be a number of Ballymores-the one I am looking for, it's actual location, is in Glencolumbkille, next to Inishkeel and Kilcar parishes. It doesn't appear on any map-yet my grandfather's birth certificate from 1884 states he was born in Ballymore in Glenties-which is in Glencolumbkille parish, on the very southwest coast of Donegal.
I am looking for any Gillespies who may have been farmers/tenant farmers in that area from that time period-specifically Connell Gillespie and his wife, Bridget (Curran) Gillespie.
Many thanks,
EG

I looked up Christopher's map of Glencolumbkille's parishes and I found Ballymore, so that was easy. Many thanks to Christoher for that information.
Still looking for any Gillespies in the 1880's from that area.
Many thanks,
EG

LDS parent search turns up 2 children for Conal Gillespie & Brigid Curran (more details at www.familysearch.org):
1. Margaret Gillespie (1879-1971) m.(1904) John Byrne.
2. James Gillespie (1881-1950) m.(1922) Anne Haughey.
Both marriages took place in California and both Margaret and James are given as born Ballymore, Teelin, Donegal.
Both records are submitted so would need to be checked carefully but they may give you some clues.

Hello,
Many thanks, you are clearly very adept at this. Margaret was my great-aunt, and I had not heard of James, although it makes sense. I will investigate further. I just got started at this, and already I have far more information that I thought possible.
With much gratitude,

Hello again,
One more question-where would one go to find either current land holdings or a telephone directory for Teelin? I have been told I have living relatives in that town now.
Many thanks,
EG

Hi EG, Try this link-
http://www.donegal.ie/dcc/gplan/
Just type in Ballymore in the townland box, results for Ballymore , Ballymore Upper and Lower displayed in a different window underneath, click 'go'! for each. to see who's applied for planning. I suspect the Ballymore Upper and Lower in Glenties will be the ones you are looking for. The data is not up to date but will give you an idea. It's interesting anyway ;D With this, I could prove my family name rented/owned land in the samespot for neary 150 yrs (in conjuntion with G.V. maps)
Then click on each little yellow planning application to see who's applied and nearby applications. There's certainly Currans abt.. I only searched a few so there may well be Gillespies too.

Quite helpful, many thanks.!
Yes, the Currans are quite numerous, so I've been told.

The Ballymore that you are looking for is indeed in the Parish of Glencolumbkille, close to the town of Carrick. Ballymore (An Baile Mor) is shown on the Donegal Discovery series Map #10 just to the west of Carrick.
The Glencolumbkille Parish stipend listing that was written in 1878 shows Condy Gillespie married to Bridget Curran with children Mary (1/2 years of age in 1878) and Margaret. Margaret is listed in the Civil Birth records for the Registrar's District of Carrick as being born 5 Dec 1879. Margarets name was written in the stipend after 1878.
Condy's parents are listed as James Gillespie and Margaret Boyle and Condy has a brother John listed as 25 years of age.
The birth certificate that you have should state that the Superintendent-Registar's District is Glenties.
Hope this helps,
Mike
