I am aware that you can search a census by street, but I haven't come across this yet. I have a birth certificate in 1876 that has a full address of West Street in Spitalfields. For 1871 and 1881 census they lived elsewhere but I would like to find out more about the road they lived at in 1876. I thought if I looked up the street index in say 1881 it would give me more info about the road.
All the online searches I can find are just by name.
Can anyone shed any more light on this for me?
Thanks

Hi Welovemarmite!
Welcome to RootsChat :)
You're lucky! The 1881 is the only census that is searchable by address at www.ancestry.co.uk
(You need to register but it's free)

Booth's poverty map (1898-99) shows West Street as "mixed, some comfortable others poor".

Thanks for that. Why is this so addictive. Interesting that the house they lived at, number 1, isn't listed, but 2 and 3 are. I may have to go and investigate the original records at some point to satisfy my curiosity!
