hi
Does anyone have any information on Nelson Buildings,Bridge Street,West Greenwich? My gran was born at no 12 Nelson Buildings,Bridge Street. Apparantly Bridge Street amalgamated with Creek Road years ago so no longer exists as such. Have old map of greenwich for 1896ish and which is really interesting as shows who was trading on the street at that time.

Hi Jacquie,
If you look at the Charles Booth Notebook site on:
http://booth.lse.ac.uk/cgi-bin/do.pl?sub=retrieve_catalogue_notebook&args=b368,100,120
I think you'll find an entry for Nelson Buildings.
Back in the 1970's, when I was a student at Rachel McMillan in Deptford, - I used to cycle along Creek Road...

My grandmother, her brother, mother and stepfather were living at 19 Nelson Buildings, Greenwich in 1881.
Nelson Buildings were 40 tenements described by The Times as "improved dwellings for the working classes" in 1869
and Charles Booths notebooks describe Nelson Buildings as "five-storied tenement facing on Bridge St. Belongs to the Improved Industrial Dwellings Coy ...all look comfortable...painted pink & green".
