Hello Lesley ,
i have come across a William Guise who was , it seems, a close friend of one of my ancestors. It seems that they left Worcs together about 1810 to settle in Oxford.
this William was born in Crowle.
All the best in your searching :D

I have ancestors coming from Claines, north of Worcester. one of them was a baker too .
How lovely to know what trade your William had so long ago.
Of course there are several spellings of Guise as well.

Hi
GUISE..(tailor) was hanged just before the battle of worcester 1651, as a traitor......he informed Cromwell about the movements of CharlesII and as such, paid the price!!...his widow was granted by Cromwell £100 per year afterwards....

I am currently working on a William Guise in Droitwich, Worcestershire in the 1600's however the only William Guise I have was christened in 1645 to a William Guyse, so possibly not yours.

Thank you Trish for answering so quickly. Yes, you are correct about William Guyse and his mother. I found this information myself after posting the message and realized I had a misconnection with William. I have spent several hours going through every source I can find to get back on track. I have a William Guise who married a Joan Freezie (can't help but feel that name has been wrongly read but no Parish Register to cross check it) on 26 Nov 1664 at St. Andrews, Droitwich, Worcestershire. Their son Thomas, bap. 17 Sep 1665 at the same place, is the ancestor I've been tracing. It seemed logical William Guise would have been born around the 1630's to early 1640's. Although he could have been much older on his second or third marriage - it happens. The thing was finding that birth for William. I have found another "possible" birth in 1641 to a John and Joane Guyse but either these two were very mobile or there are a few other couples with the same names in the same time frame. It is a difficult time frame for finding reliable information with so little in the way of extra details. I have found an earlier family in the right location of Droitwich but can't get the connection to them yet. They are William Guyse and Alice Partridg married 10 Jun 1626 in Droitwich and most the children born both before and after the marriage are also baptised there. Their son Thomas seemed a good "possible" but I have yet to find that connection. As they say, just keep looking.

Hi again surfcity.
As you say searching that far back is hit and miss.
Sorry I cant be more help but I am in Australia so a bit far to look at actual Parish Records from!
Good luck with it all.

All good, Trish. I've been doing this stuff for enough years to know my way around but the older you get the harder it is to put in the amount of research time good work takes. Still, it is my passion so I plod on. I have been doing work for others as I have gone as far as possible with my own lines and those of husband plus a wide range of relatives. You can cover a lot of ground in 37 years. I'm taking some time out to get on with other jobs in my garden and hopefully give the brain and eyes a rest for a few days at least. I could go back to transcription work to answer some of these questions but I don't feel my eyes are up to that challenge any more. The "bad ink" sections are killers. Thank you again for your interest.

I also as you can see try and help others on here too keep the brain cells working.
All the best,
Trish :)
