I have a Richard Richely born abt 1814 Hexham, resident Corbridge 1841, married to Elizabeth (possibly Beldon), first known child John born abt 1835, other children Elizabeth, Robert Beldon, William.
Would love to know marriage details and birth/christening dates and locations.
Thanks

Tony,
Not what you wanted, but below might be of interest to you.
Marriage Hexham Parish Church.
19 Nov 1780
William Richley of Corbridge >< Mary Gibson of this parish
Witnesses Alexander Whorley and Edward Whaley.
An earlier Richley marriage
Hexham Parish 29 sep 1761
Reuben Richley of Medomsley >< Eleanor Hunter of this parish.
Witnesses John Hunter and Frances Bell.
---------------------------------------------------------------
A surname index of Hexham Parish bapts, marriages and burials( 1600s to 1812) show no Richley/Richely events other than the two above.
Index of Northumberland Marriages 1813-1837 does not hold a Richard Richley marriage.

Hello and thanks for replying.
I'll keep the information for future reference (hopefully.)
I notice you refer to Hexham Parish Church. Do you have by any chance access to the records for Corbridge Church? Robert Beldon Richely (abt 1840) and his siblings (John, Elizabeth, William) could have baptism records there.

Hello again
You said that the Index of Northumberland Marriages 1813-1837 does not hold a Richard Richley marriage. Does it hold a Robert Richely marriage?
Tony

Tony,
Neither the Hexham Parish index nor the Northumberland Marriage Index 1813-1837 held any Richely entires, but there were some on Richley.
Next time I am in Newcastle Library ( I visit several times a week) I will look at marriage index for a Robert marriage and browse Corbridge Parish records.

Thanks that would be fantastic. I am a long way from Tyneside. It is Richley not Richely.

I have just realised I have used the wrong spelling throughout. Many apologies. It is definitely Richley.

Tony,
Phew, thank you for your last message. Your second-last one, had me questioning my sanity.

Ive checked out your names from the info Ive got on Corbridge, but cant find a Richard as yet. My husband is also descended from Richleys in Corbridge, so Im sure they will fit in somewhere! Do you have any other names/dates?

There are many Richleys in the Corbridge Parish records
( for a benchmarch.. at least 4 times as many Richleys as Robinsons)
Indexes available
Bapts 1654-1812, Marriages 1657-1812, Burials 1657-1812.
B,M,Bur 1813-1851
An example.. Bapt 25 June 1770 Richard Richley son of John Richley of Corbridge.

Tony,
Had another look in the Corbridge Parish transcriptions today.
I could not see any "events" to match your search.
The following couples were marrying and baptising children in the early 1800s...
Jonat Richley- Hannah.. shoemaker
William Richley-Frances Leadbitter.. shoemaker
Alfred Richley-Mary Nicholson .. shoemaker
Rowland Richley-Isabel Armstrong.. butcher
John Richley-Jane Stockoe
Jonat Richley-Dorothy.. mason
Robert Richley-Elizabeth.. Shoemaker
An Elizabeth Beldon married Robert Bewick, both of the P of Corbridge.. 13 Nov 1833.

The web site on Northumberland's communities
communities.northumberland.gov.uk
in the Corbridge section, in the Printed Material part, shows at least 5 Richleys in the Parson and White trade directory of 1827.

Thanks again
For your information Robert b abt 1814 was according to the 1841 51 61 71 and 81 censi a Cordwainer, Leather Cutters Showman, Hide Agent, Wool Buyer and a Woolstaplers Traveller respectively. In 1841 he lived at Main Street Corbridge.
Another possible clue - in 1871 he was living with his adopted daughter Ann Howard b abt 1861 Scotland but in a 1881 he was living with his granddaughter Ann Richley b abt 1862 Scotland. If it is granddaughter then presumeably there should be a Richley Howard marriage for a daughter - only one I know of is Elizabeth b abt 1839 Corbridge.

Hi Tony
I am the great great great great grand daughter of Charlotte Richley born Corbridge abt 1794 who married a George Barras Wardropper Mariner ( son of Robert Wardropper Butcher of Chester le Street ) in Sunderland 1816.
She is listed on the 1841 census as Charlotte Wardropper and also her daughter Elizabeth Wardropper both listed in Corbridge.
My problem relative who I have have very little details of is her son Joseph Wardropper born Sunderland 1817 Engine Driver .
Are any names familiar as seems unlikely we can both be related to Wardroper ( wardroppers ) and Richleys with out a common link ??
Claire
