Hi i'm looking for a william holmes c1786 Preston Yorks. thats where he says he's from on all the census's. Until later in life when he must have forgotton where he was from.
He came down to Notts and married Mary Doncaster in north clifton in 1829.

hi My William Holmes c1786 preston Yorks Died 1868 East Retford. Married mary Doncaster. Their son Samuel Doncaster 1829-1890 Fledborough Notts. married Harriet Baker. Thet had a son Henry Holmes 1853-1937 he married Elizabeth shaw. they had a daughter Nelly 1883 Rawmarsh who is my husbands grandmother. does this sound like your family. Netnet

Indeed it is ! One of Henry's brothers wives gave birth to Tom W Holmes , (don't know who yet, the names I have are William 1851,Frederick 1857,John Tom 1860 and Samuel 1866). Tom W (1891) was the father of my Uncle Charles Holmes.

I dont know if youve got access to Ancestry.com , theres a number of family trees posted on there with connections to Samuel Holmes. If theres anything you want to know I may be able to help . Regards.
