Ancestry.com have another 3 free days offer running with no card details required.
Some people are managing to access it even if they have taken advantage of a previous one but some are not. I have got in!
Selina
-
Please help. Any idea how to get the page that offers the free 3 days? as usual I can't get the link and have even tried going into Ancestry after logging off with my user name.
-
Thanks very much- I got in!!!!
-
I'm in too...
Pauline
-
thank you so much for the link. I had to use my daughters email because it wouldn't accept mine but now i can have 3 days looking for myself and not have to rely on the very kind souls.

When I used the Ancestry 3 free days trial, I spent 3 x 10 hour days on the computer !!!
I ended up buying a subscription though, once I was hooked :D
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I got in too. Excellent.
Chorlton, I'll be like you - 3 days solid on computer!
Dave
-
Well I got in .... but then I had to go dish up dinner and it won't let me back in !! :P :P :P :P
-
Thanks for the warning. Will leave Ancestry open and work in other tabs.
-
Yes .... when I got back it said I had already used my freebie ....
so make sure you guys you keep it open !! :-\
I'm all bummed now ....... I did stuff for somebody else and didn't get mine .... ah well .... I'll just work on my UK !! :)
Unless somebody has a brilliant idea .... please let me know !! :)
-
How about opening up a hotmail account or something in another name and registering under that?
-
I think they might drop a cookie, or such like, on to your computer, so they know if you have used them before.
I may just try to register again using another computer on my network, and see if it lets me.
-

It tells me that every time, but I just click on the 'continue' button anyway and it lets me in. ;D ;D

Just found this thread and was able to get into Ancestry - thanks for letting us know Selina! Trouble is it's after midnight and I should turn in.
Does anyone know what date this offer finishes?
-
What good timing
I was just about to post a lookup request when I found your post!!
Thanks yery much

Try another email account. I wouldn't let me in on mine but my daughter put in her hotmail address and no problems (so far). Worth a try.
Jody
-
Jody / Annie,
I think I just suggested that a few posts ago.
Chorlton expressed concern about cookies but it doesn't seem to be a problem for most folk.
Worth a try.
It works for me too. ;D
Only problem is, I've spent a fortune on paper printing off as much as I can while the going is good.
Once you are in, hint from me would be to print / save as much as you can in the 3 free days and analyse it later.
Going back to Chorlton's comment, if you've got CCleaner, use it. It'll clean out the cookie.
-
Wow thanks for posting this :-* ;D ;D
:D Gosh my partner is going to be mad, i'll be stuck on the computer for hours now!
THANKS!

Yep there are different ways of getting in, lol! I never log off Ancestry whilst I have access. I have been on for as long as 5 days and, on the other hand, have been told that my time was up after 1 day!
Not sure about how long the offer lasts, I think that as long as you use the correct link it goes on for quite a while.
I too have used loads of paper and ink!! Takes me ages to sort out everything I have printed after I get cut off, but have gained so much.
Hope they don't read these posts and stop the offers! There was a useful loophole in the 1901 Census that got closed when people started telling each other and 192.com is not as easy to get free info from as it was but with patience you can find out quite a bit.
There is another county site that tightened up when they found people could gain just a little bit of extra information without paying!
Make hay while the suns shines seems to be the answer!

Unfortunately, Ancestry won't let me in as I have used it before.
Last time I got some information (printed some stuff) but didn't realise until it was too late that the family I was interested in might have gone on to the next page. I wonder if anybody would look for me.
John Montague b 1828 Ireland. Age in 1870 42.
Census year 1870 Place Brooklyn Ward 6, Kings, New York, Roll M593_948, Page 80; Image 159 (so I assume the one I want is 160)
If someone could find the next page I would be very grateful.
Many thanks

Well I'm back in ! .... all of a sudden the continue button appeared .... it didn't do that before !! ::)
My cartridge just ran out ............... and I can't get to the store for another one today !! :-\
but I'm downloading all my census that I need .... I'm a happy camper ! I'm also very silly .... I had a subscription for a year and never did do my own stuff .... always Roots !! :) :)
I'll take a look Ruby !! ;D
Annie :)
-
Thanks Annie, you're a star!
-
No Ruby ...... next door house is on the next page .... just him and the missus and 2 kids !! ;D
Do you have it ?
Annie :)

I don't think this is what this post is about. Don't want to seem unhelpful but I think most folk would prefer if this post stayed on track. Suggest you try posting on the appropriate Irish site.
-
I did it already Dave ! .... Ruby's a good lady ! .... doesn't hurt to hijack sometimes !! :)
Do you have enough ink cartridges Dave ! ;D
Annie :)
-
I am so slow!!!!
I was looking for stuff for Ruby, found it (I think), came back to post it, and here you are Annie.
Well done.
;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Apologies Dave for highjacking your thread - didn't think it through before I posted but hopefully no harm done.
Annie has, as usual, offered a helping hand and had a look, but there are no more Montagues on the next page. Someday I'll find them!
Regards
Ruby

No apologies necessary :)
Except from me probably :(
I get on my high horse sometimes ::)
Again, this is probably not the appropriate link to put this on ???
However.....
Do any of you get a wee bitty annoyed >:( when you spend time doing searches for someone, only to find that a fellow RC has done the same search(es) as well :-\
Maybe we should all answer a thread saying "I'll do this" or similar.
PS
Does anybody know where I can find Jack Daniel's of Mahoose, Glesca?

Yes Annie - "I did Dave". So you did!!!!!
Your 5 wee word phrase "I'll take a look Ruby" with a smiley at the end made that really clear!
I don't think even a sober person would have spotted that!!
Well done for at least spelling Whiskey correctly.
-
Oh yes David ! .........
seems to me you need your "Giglamps" changed .... oh and by the way ...... I can even spell glenfiddich :P
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Howzat for being off topic ?? ;D

Ummm - not good - I keep getting a "page not found" error message. Wonder if they have they been inundated?
I was able to access Ancestry earlier ....
Anone else having problems?
-
I just tried, still OK, I saved a search page in Favourites and went in through that.
Selina
-
Oh dear - thanks Selina, I usually do that, but didn't this time ..... :'(.
Must be peak UK time at the moment .... wonder if this may have something to do with it? ....
Will try again later.

Hello Selina,
Thank you for notifying us about the "Ancestry - 3 Free Days", and the link.
Previously we have accessed via my husband's Email and Login details. This time we decided to vary it, so entered via my Email and Login details. If something goes wrong with this access, or we need extra time, then we can hopefully revert back to my husband's Login details. Have also bookmarked search page, after logging on.
Thanking you,
Jeanette H.

I can't even get in when typing the address in the address bar - so I can't even try using a different user name.
Typing .com instead of .co.uk leads me to some other page and when I type "ancestry" into their search it finds nothing.
Any idea what's going on?
-
Have you tried going back in from your 'History'?
Sel
-
.. good idea, thanks Selina - will try that now ....
YES, that seems to have worked!!! Thank you!
-
Oh well done, its so annoying to lose it. Happy hunting!
History should work like Favourites I suppose. I used to always go back in that way but unfortunately now my 'History' doesn't work and saves nothing although I have checked the settings many times!

Just want to say a huge thanks for starting this thread!!!!
I have managed to get in with my own log in and am now viewing immigration docs that fellow chatters have previously transcribed.
I have also just phoned a friend to pass on the news and she sounded like a child at Christmas!! :D :D
Thanks again
-
Yes, it's been wonderful to get into Ancestry again and do some more searching. As usual one thing leads to another and quite accidentally I came across my mother's 2nd cousin who I sent a message to after viewing his tree and this morning got an email back!
-
Wow! Thanks so much for that link. I might think seriously about subscribing now if "Hubby" will let me. He hasn't seen or heard from me all day!
