Post by: casabob on Monday 27 December 04 00:44 GMT (UK)
Could anyone lookup a

Thomas ROTHWELL

born around 1811 living and working in Salford as a greengrocer?  His wife's name may have been Jane.

Many thanks in advance

Dear Krisesjoint

This one stumped me for a while, but I think I've cracked it.  The Thomas you found on the 1871 census must be Thomas Rothwell 'Junior' , as the Thomas I was looking for (b.1811) was also a greengrocer at 1 Albion Street, according to the 1861 census.  I can only presume that Thomas Senior  must have died sometime between the two censuses and that his elder son took over the family shop.  I couldn't understand why none of the family members or ages were the same between the two censuses, but I think if the son took over the father's business, that would explain it.

What do you think?  Plausible?

Thanks ever so for your help and seasons greetings

Hi Robert....That is what I wondered when I found the entry though without knowledge I couldn't say....... now you say this is the same address as 61 and a greencrocer as well....I am confident this is right  ;) ...obviously the son took over the business and mother stayed with him...All the best with it

Happy New Year  :) Kris
