In 1842 my grt grandfather Jonas WHITHAM, born 31.10.1823, married a widow, Charlotte KITSON, nee DURHAM at St Paul's, Alvethorpe, Wakefield. They had six children the last was according to a family bible born in Sept 1856 when Charlotte died in child birth but I can find no trace of her death. Now here's the mystery - 1862 Jonas married my grt grandmother at Anwick in Lincolnshire under the assumed name of William Kitson DENNISON (DENNISON was his mothers maiden name). Was Jonas a bigamist? He had a further 11 children, the 5 under the name of DENNISON but then all rest plus Jonas and his wife reverted to their proper name of WHITHAM. Can anyone find Charlotte or suggest where I look?

Have you checked that the death for Charlotte Witham Q4 1856 Hull Yorkshire 9d 124 isn't your Charlotte, that would seem to be exactly right for a death in September 1856.
Do you know his father's name from his marriage certificates? Are you sure that he didn't take his mother's name because it was in fact his own - possibly illegitimate?

Thanks for the death record....I haven't checked that name, tried to find the correct name of WHITHAM first.
Jonas was not illegitimate....he is shown with his father, another Jonas, on the 1841 census and that's the name that shows on his first marriage cert but on the fictitious cert, fathers name is Robert.
