Hi Lynn
Sorry I don't think we are descended from the same branch of the Storey Family. My connection is to Eleanor Storey b 1779, her father was Samuel Storey who married Margery Jobling in 1774. I've got a birth date for Samuel (Came from the IGI) but no details of his parents. Unfortunately it appears that a lot of the Whickham Storeys have descendants who are members of the LDS Church and a lot of the IGI data is what LDS members have submitted which also means that its fairly suspect.

The only way to find out whether we really are connceted is to go through the Whickham Parish Registers - there is a very good web-site:-
              www.search.labs.familysearch.org

that contains the Bishop's Transcripts for Durham but the Whickham records are only from June 1767 to 1853 there are also records for Ryton and Tanfield. I've had a quick look at Whickham and Ryton but couldn't find your Robert.

Hope you do find your Storey's and if you do find there's a connection  please do contact me again
Good luck

Thank for that - I think that Samuel is a bit too old to be mine - he married in 1774 and died some time after 1803,

That was Samuel's first marriage? In 1774?  Did the marriage state he was a bachelor?  You never know.

Hi Janis,

I don't know whether Samuel was married previously - the Bishops Transcript for Whickham just gives the names Samuel Storey and Margery Jobling both of this parish for their marriage in  March 1734.

I've found a death  in the Whickham BTs for a Samuel Storey of Lobley Hill in June 1826 that gives his age as 80 so that would make his birth date about 1746.

By the way I see you are researching the name Greener - I'm descended from Anthony Greener 1736-1809 who married Elizabeth Pescod in 1765! What is your connection to the Greeners?

Enid

Three of the Greeners that died at the Felling mine disaster of 1812 were my relatives.  Isaac Greener b 1747 d 1812 married to Ann Maugham were my many times great grandparents.  All their children were baptised in Gateshead.

Added Oct 2009.  One of Isaac Greener's grandsons was William Wellington Greener, gunsmith.  I gather the company is still making guns.

Hello Mike,

Sorry can't help - I do have a family of Redpath's in my tree but not connected to Whickham - Robert Henry b abt 1860 in Gateshead married Dorothy Bertram Tynemouth area in 1883, they had 3 children Mary; Honoria & George Lived in Seaton Delavel (1891)  & Hartley (1901). My connection is through Dorothy who would have been my 3rd cousin 3times removed.

I am researching the Heron family from Whickham. In particular I am trying to establish the details of the death of Joseph Heron, who Married Dorothy (Emmett) born 28/11/1865. She is buried in the St Mary's churchyard. His year of birth was 1863, Joseph was previously married - but I have not yet been able to establish to whom. With Dorothy he had 8 children (Joseph, Christopher, Emily (my grandmother), Elizabeth, Margaret, William and Thomas. Thomas Heron is well known in Whickham as for many years he was the verger of St Mary's and the local scoutmaster. There is even a street in Whickham named after him. We believe they lived at 4 James Street, Whickam. Can anyone help? Many thanks.

My mother's father was Joseph Heron, Emily's brother. He lived in Whickham all his life and died in the 1970s. His first wife died before the war and he remarried. My mother and her sister went to live with their aunt in Newcastle. I remember meeting Dorothy (Dora) when I was very young in the 1950s. She had a tight control on her sons, especially Tommy.. If you have not already looked the following site has a lot of useful information www.emmettweb.co.uk
It would be nice to know how far back you ahve traced the family. I have traced the Herons to Henry Heron (b1789) Wylam. Best regards

Hi.
My 3x Greatgrandfather was William Atkinson born 23rd March 1807 in Lowhand (Dunston, Whickham)1st son of John Atkinson of Patterdale by his wife Sarah, daughter of Matthew Seamers of Ryton.
 Any relation?
The above was obtained some years ago, from a magic hand written book, with index,of Christenings etc., of St. Mary's Church, Whickham, in the Local history section of Newcastle City Library.
