Title: St Helier records
Post by: NooshieW on Tuesday 23 October 07 12:54 BST (UK)
Dear Rootschatters,
I asked for help some time ago with a lookup for a marriage between WIlliam Horn and Mary Ann Bisson. A kind person replied with the date 1/11/1839. How does someone go about obtaining the original certificate for this?
Help much appreciated,
Kind Regards
Nooshie

Hi Nooshie

If you go to www.genuki.org.uk and then follow the links to Channel Islands/Jersey/Civil Registration it gives details on ordering certificates.

By the way, I've just realised there there will be no certificate for 1839 as Civil Registration didn't start until 1842.

Hi,
Thanks for info. The person who found the original record for me said that because of the fragility of the parish records they weren't accessible, so any further details from the original couldn't be accessed, is this correct? It is frustrating, because it would be interesting to get parents names, witnesses etc from this record.
Kind Regards

Everything that is in the Parish Record should have been transcribed into the index. I'll take a look in the next day or two.

Hi
I've been and had a look at the Parish record for you and I'm afarid the information is scant.

Yes, the marriage took place at St Helier Church on 1/11/1839 betwee WH and MAB. The only additonal information was that he came from Plymstock, Devon and she came from St Lawrence..

Hello Nooshie,

I too have a BISSON in my family!

Violet Ada Bisson was born about 1877.  She married warehouse worker James William Davies and lived in St Helier Jersey.

They had two children Violet Irene Mary Davies and Lillian Beatrice Davies.

It would be great to hear from you if you think there might be a connection....

Thanks.

Hannah

Hi All

Don't want to put a dampener but Bisson is a very common name in Jersey.

If you inquire at the Jersey Archive, some kind person has deposited the Bisson familytree (could save you a lot of work).

Thanks Stewart.

I didn't know that Bisson was a common name in Jersey as I haven't come across the name in England.

I'll contact the Jersey Archives and see what they have on the Bisson family tree.  It will be amazing if there is a connection!

Thanks again.
