Could anyone lookup an
Edwin ROBINSON, living in Salford, father of Arthur Robinson (b.1866) . Sorry the details are so sketchy, but he was definitely deceased by 1892 when his son got married in Whalley Range Wesleyan Chapel.
Many thanks in advance and seasons greetings to all

Can't find him in 1851. I think this is him in 1861. There are lots of Robinsons and I stopped at the first one that looked like an Edwin.

Dear skb
Thanks for the info, I think this probably is the right Edwin Robinson, as he is listed as a 'fitter' on his son's marriage cert., and this seems to fit.
Intriguingly, we also know that he died fairly young and his wife remarried someone called Entwistle. On the 1881 census, there's a Catharine Entwistle, born Scotland, aged 38, married to a Richard Entwistle. Do you think they could be the same person - according to the 1861 census, Catherine was aged 20, i.e. born around 1840, but the Catharine (sic) on the 1881 census was aged 38, i.e. born around 1843. Do you thnk they could be the same person? I would be grateful for your thoughts on the matter.
Thanks again for all the info

I came across your question by accident.
You cannot trust the ages on the census to be accurate - especially for the women!
I have one ancestor who only aged 6 to 9 years between each Census from 1851-1901. By 1901 she was 78 years of age, but only claimed to be 63 !!! We can only be certain it is her because of the other family members living with her at each Census.
I have another who increases her age to 18 in 1881 (when she was 16 and married) and then in 1901 has lowered it to 32 !
So a 3 year discrepency should not rule out Catharine Entwistle being the same as the former Catherine Robinson.
It doesn't prove it either!
