Title: Prick - St Benedicts Cambs
Post by: sylyal on Thursday 18 October 07 17:02 BST (UK)
Hi everyone
I have Jessima Prick who married Thomas Hazelwood 29 May 1792, I can find no other mention of her anywhere!
With an unusual christian name I would have thought she would have been easy to find but no such luck any help needed
Thanks
Syl

Hi Syl,

The only information I could find is that Jessima and Thomas had a son William who may have been born  about 1793, he married Elizabeth King and they had a daughter Called Harriett who married a Robert James Claydon.

Jessima is an unusual name...but it's her last name that I think should be easy to find.

Is it possible that it was mistranscribed wherever you found it??  I have never heard of that last name and you would imagine it would be one people talked about.

Have you checked the marriage entry to see if any parishes of residence were given, plus witnesses?

A Rootsweb tree shows the marriage as being in Cambridge St Benedict, whereas another Rootsweb tree shows the same date but at Herringswell, Suffolk. When there's such a divergence I always start to get worried!

Where did the marriage information come from, as Cambridge St Benedicts has been extracted onto the IGI and it doesn't appear, nor is it in Phillimore's Parish registers - Marriages for Cambridge St Benedicts

Dollylee - there are 300 Prick/Pryke entries in Cambs on the IGI, so wherever the marriage took place I don't think it was necessarily a mistranscription.

As the online tree has sylyal as part of the email address I suspect it's your Rootsweb tree Sylvia. Why do you say the family moved to Herringswell AFTER William was born, when the tree gives a pretty specific birth date of 11 Aug 1793 in Herringswell?

Hi Everyone
William was baptised in Herringswell, please ignore the above plip, I think I was looking at something else when I typed it.
Thomas and Jesima Prick are on the IGI as being married in Herringswell, however, I have not confirmed this information, hence why I am still looking for anything about her.

bedforshire boy... I shouldn't have posted that so quickly.  My apologies to everyone for the knee jerk reaction.

I think the first step must be to check Herringswell parish register for the marriage - it's a member submission so is unreliable. If you're lucky it might give Jesima's parish of residence, or have witnesses which might provide a clue.

You could check for baptisms at the same time, as Herringswell has not been extracted onto the IGI. A transcript has been filmed by the LDS
