Hi, I wondered if anyone could help me find out more about my 2 x Graet Grandmother Ellen.
All i know is that she was born in 1853 in Runcorn, Cheshire. I don't have a maiden name for her before she married Job Gittins in 1870 in Runcorn. She went on to have 7 children.
I know it's not a lot to go on, but you may be much cleverer than me to find out her name and parents etc?!
Thank you for your help, regards, Erica.

WOW ! Thankyou so much for this!
I see you said Ellen or another name. Was he married twice then?
Also I see you are researchiong the Downing family. As you can see my maiden name was Downing and i have managed to go back to a Paul Downing born in 1793 who married an Elizabeth Fox/Cox in 1814. Ring any bells?
Kind regards, Erica.

Hi,
No, he wasnt married twice, in the indexes there are usually 2 or 4 couples to a page. Harriet Tittles was the other bride, but she must have married the other groom listed if Job married an Ellen.
The marriage certificate will confirm if these are her parents, or a birth certicficate of one of Job and Ellen's children will confirm Ellen's maiden name.
My Downings are complicated. I think they briefly changed their name for some reason from Dunning to Downing and then back again ::) Your Downings dont sound familiar unfortunately (my John Downing/Dunning b.c1819 was a flower painter potter Wolstanton area, married to Hannah Vickers)
Let me know if you need any more lookups
Regards
Catherine :)

Hello. My married name is Downing. Looking for a starting point to look for Timothy Downing b. 1696 and d. 1732. His sons came to America and I have traced my husband's family back to Timothy, with only birth and death dates as clues. Is this your family? Or do you have a suggestion as to where to start looking? Would appreciate it. The place names are not familiar to me. Thank you. Nancy

Hi!
i have no idea if we are the same family i'm afraid, but i must admit we might be as my earliest Downing was a John Dunning/Downing around the same time - 1690's. (In the Midlands). They may be brothers or Cousins? I have very little info on the early Downings and what i have got is detailed on my family tree on Genes Reunited. Another lady who has a Downing connection gave me access to her tree on that and that's where i got alot of my info from. I would suggest you join it and get access to my tree if you would like. Enter DERRIK DOWNING (note spelling of derrik - my late Dad), in the search engine on there and you can ask me to access my tree thereon. I have also had LOTS of help here on Roots by posting queries. People are SO friendly and very helpful and they have helped me so much to find out information. I hope this helps some.
Kind regards, Erica.
